You gotta get in touch first
Find jobs thru people
But first find those people
If you know of directors or follow crew people on IG, do some digging. Send countless emails, set up meetings, communicate what you wanna do to people who are in
Believe it or not, people who work in production are always open to meeting new guys who wanna put in work
I didn’t say that.
I said you you have to work in the industry.
You said you have to make it lol, plenty of people here prob work in it
I’d say you don’t need a degree at all family but make sure this is your set career path for the next 5 years at least
It’s the only way it’ll work out
“Burn the boats”
Your competition are the people who live in your city, your age, all trying to do the same s***. You gotta be a machine about this and not deviate from your objectives and goals
Also, look around and see if you can be an extra in a film. Try to be one and talk to people on set and ask where the people are that already have the position it is you are wanting to fill and then go talk to them. A lot of them may not even be hired directly but could be working for a Company that contracts out their workers to different movie productions/studios which would work out great for you (although you may get paid less but higher chance you could work for that company then they dispatch you to some random film production and you gain experience)
You can do all of this today as well. Or at least start taking the first steps
First step is to close KTT
I know it’s hard but you prolly already knew everything you needed to do before even making this thread you really just gotta believe in yourself and go do it.
Thank you thug! scared money never made any gonna see what sites I have to be on to initiate contact and clean my resume up

watch some old films and learn the masters. all from the theoretical aspect from editing, visuals, and of course, an engaging story.

That’s actually a hard tattoo idea lol
But yeah for being on set that’s your go to, find PA gigs, find the ppl who are working and reach out. go from the job to job and build while saving $
The relationships will come naturally but you gotta go hard and have tunnel vision for a bit.
I work on a film crew freelancing for nbc, abc, and cbs.
I’m one year into it.
Didn't attend film school but always had interest in the industry, I looked for jobs at film studios. Got lucky and worked at this studio in midtown nyc that ended up being the only third party studio that Disney used.
managed the studio for about two years made connections and got a opportunity to join this cinematographer thats been in the industry for 30+ years.
Lots of luck and placing myself at the right time and place

To be fair that’s how a lot of actors get on
To be on set OP just needs a good resume and connections

Every actor I know isn’t worried about having s***for their work.
And I know guys who are major and paid.
Coming into it with that old mentality is weak.

Yea lots Of weird jokes in here lol

My idea of making it in the film industry is actually just working in it. That’s what I meant.
Most film industry success you'll ever have springs from the time you put in on low budget projects, getting coffee for people, and generally being useful. It's really not about talent so much as knowing the right people and that doesn't happen unless you get out there and grind.
My wife has an MA in film and still didn't get anywhere until we moved out to LA and she started getting people drinks, driving people to airports, etc. Soon she got the work she wanted and now she makes 80k doing post-production work. The degrees didn't matter that much.

I recommend listening to podcasts / videos about this. Film Courage is a great resource of insight. Overall, mold/mirror what your peers have done. Peers meaning those you've looked up to. Stop by your local cable access and utilize their equipment and network with them. It's a faster way to create than going to school.
Always be open minded but have a direction you want to take your career. Hone your craft, doesn't have to be large and expansive productions just start small, give yourself an idea you can handle and grow.
Build your portfolio, learn the language and network. Best of luck

thanks for the plug. gonna check it out and take all the info I can from it. My mind is open and I’m willing to work on smaller projects as well even if they don’t pay much at first

Pretty often I’ve gotten big jobs because of those smaller jobs ironically
