Revival is Selena’s best put together album, but if you didn’t like any of her singles maybe she isn’t for you

Teenage Dream is Katy’s (although ive seen some love for Prism, wasn’t too keen on it) that album is pretty much my favorite of hers and it’s remarkably consistent to me outside the singles

Saying that the album is something artists like bebe rexha or rita ora could make and reducing it’s success to being just "gay-men/reddit core" is crazy to me

I don't know, man. I just don't see the hate towards mainstream pop acts you're talking about. Melodrama, Thank U Next, Future Nostalgia and Midnights (vastly overrated by critics) were more praised by critics than anything Carly has or probably ever will put out. She's not the only pop artist getting acclaim and, to be honest, she's not even getting acclaim like that these days. Most of the artists people bring up as equally deserving but reviled aren't as good.

not inherently no, but when we get threads like these trying to credit Carly Rae for Taylor making Folklore, it definitely communicates that this is a tourist and not someone who actually knows pop music in-depth

I admire Carly for this one bc at the time when she was only known for having a famous internet meme there's a lot of avenues she can take and out of all the options she choose to make an album that's wholly her. People who stan Carly Rae & these select pop acts do tend to disregard that a Carly Rae album probably has major sonic overlap with a demi or selena or Katy Perry etc album and the added cool an album made by someone they consider a 'pop auteur'/ 'true creative' like Carly adds an extra layer to the consumption while they might immediately disregard a similar product as corporate pop garbage without a hint of hesitation.

Emotion is 47th on P4K's decade end but they didn't even give it a 7.5 but ArchAndroid 8.5BNM didn't even make the list

Pop music fans, like rock or metal or rap or punk or country fans, love their favorite music and want to spread it where they can. They want it to reach as far as possible and get frustrated when one artist takes all the air out of the room. I've had this discussion about Carly with my wife more than once and she finds her music really overrated. It is what it is.

I'm a massive pop fan though. I sing Ariana, Katy, Taylor, Dua and definitely Carly at karaoke nights and open mics and I'll talk your ear off about their best songs. But I do think Emotion is pretty special as an album and it certainly caused me to get excited about the world of pop in 2015.
