Fine, I’ve never given them a full listen, but I’ve never enjoyed their singles
Maybe I’m being unfair
Is there a Selena Gomez album I should listen to?
yeah that must explain why each hipster gravitates to only the artsy pop hoe archetypes like Weyes Blood and Charli XCX, while s***ting on all other pop like Katy Perry and Selena Gomez
Is there anything wrong with that though?
Cmon fam, a person shouldn't have to enjoy Katy Perry just because they enjoy Carly Rae
I like Mach, Ka, Roc, WSG, Navy Blue etc but I don't enjoy Boldy James

Revival is Selena’s best put together album, but if you didn’t like any of her singles maybe she isn’t for you
Teenage Dream is Katy’s (although ive seen some love for Prism, wasn’t too keen on it) that album is pretty much my favorite of hers and it’s remarkably consistent to me outside the singles
This is why we can never have a dialogue, the people above you laid out their points mad respectfully and you just summed it up as hating
Saying that the album is something artists like bebe rexha or rita ora could make and reducing it’s success to being just "gay-men/reddit core" is crazy to me
it isn’t a mark on her legacy, and there isn’t any disdain towards EMOTION, it’s adding context to why the hell the album gets so much acclaim and love across the board lol
it’s a bit disheartening to see this one lady get all of this praise when niggas who actively listen to and adore pop saw a load of legends and artists get endlessly disparaged and discredited simply because they didn’t fit the correct archetype for the average music nerd lmao—she’s still great, but a lot of the acclaim she gets should honestly be going to other acts, but they wouldn’t ever get it because they’re too mainstream or too corporate, or whatever flavor of the month buzzword people like to toss out to s*** on pop artists
I don't know, man. I just don't see the hate towards mainstream pop acts you're talking about. Melodrama, Thank U Next, Future Nostalgia and Midnights (vastly overrated by critics) were more praised by critics than anything Carly has or probably ever will put out. She's not the only pop artist getting acclaim and, to be honest, she's not even getting acclaim like that these days. Most of the artists people bring up as equally deserving but reviled aren't as good.
I think we'll just have to agree to disagree on this one and that's fine.

Katy perry and selena could never make a Pop2 .

not inherently no, but when we get threads like these trying to credit Carly Rae for Taylor making Folklore, it definitely communicates that this is a tourist and not someone who actually knows pop music in-depth
Top KTT2 feeling, when a poster sends you multiple recommendations for a music act because they know you really will give it a chance
Carly got motion?
Nah no motion in her ocean
She a size queen, she used to date Prince Yashua & Jason Luv
Taylor probably made Folklore because she likes The National and Bon Iver like a lot of white music fans do lol

Gotcha, probably just not for me then
I think you love pop music, and so you want to defend it, and maybe gatekeep it a bit
I understand that, I think it comes from a place of love
There’s certainly people who just follow trends, or try and look cool
But I think it’s a little more complicated than you make it sound
It's not just the album for me. I admire Carly for this one bc at the time when she was only known for having a famous internet meme there's a lot of avenues she can take and out of all the options she choose to make an album that's wholly her. This is an album she greatly enjoys making and it's the closest thing to what she wants to convey from her as an artist, a creative pov

Aight aight I feel you
People who stan Carly Rae & these select pop acts do tend to disregard that a Carly Rae album probably has major sonic overlap with a demi or selena or Katy Perry etc album and the added cool an album made by someone they consider a 'pop auteur'/ 'true creative' like Carly adds an extra layer to the consumption while they might immediately disregard a similar product as corporate pop garbage without a hint of hesitation.
Emotion is 47th on P4K's decade end but they didn't even give it a 7.5 but ArchAndroid 8.5BNM didn't even make the list

Pop music fans, like rock or metal or rap or punk or country fans, love their favorite music and want to spread it where they can. They want it to reach as far as possible and get frustrated when one artist takes all the air out of the room. I've had this discussion about Carly with my wife more than once and she finds her music really overrated. It is what it is.
I'm a massive pop fan though. I sing Ariana, Katy, Taylor, Dua and definitely Carly at karaoke nights and open mics and I'll talk your ear off about their best songs. But I do think Emotion is pretty special as an album and it certainly caused me to get excited about the world of pop in 2015.

That sounds like a good ass time at Kareoke
I can never figure out what to pick
Maybe I should try out some female pop

Taylor is such a cheat code. If you can't get a crowd going with one of the Fearless singles, you f***ed up.
One of my favorite moments at an open mic was doing We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together and getting the crowd into it, s*** is four chords on loop and fun asl.
It’s been years and I still get surprised how passionate internet dudes go for Carly Rae Jepsen and Charli XCX

My friend swears ‘Creep’ is a good choice
