op is talking about how tech is advancing but people can’t get past stuff like racism
oh. thread title is weird then
and technology too due to the simple fact of free market economics that it has to be profitable. If Governments invested in tech that was for the increase in the quality of life of humanity (1870s 1940s: electricity, running water) we'd have a much better quality of life. Instead, the free market reigns free with little Government intervention and no public tech
Communist Russian people had technology and cars from the 50 's and 60s
Cuba had cars and tech from the 40's and 50's until recently
NO bro
also if we can overcome language, then a great amount of the barriers that hold us back will be shattered
Completely free market capitalism has led to huge wealth disparities environmental damage and has displaced the emphasis of human achievement from actual progress to gaming this system in ways that aren't necessarily productive. If you think this free market capitalism experiment hasn't failed to some degree ur delusional.
The easiest step forward now is to hold the rich accountable for their tax evasion schemes by actually taxing them, enforce policies to reduce pollution and put more money into education social services etc. And less into the military
true
humans have progressed exponentially in the past 30 years
look at womens rights and lgbt rights. obviously misogyny and homophobia are still around but its much less prevalent than any time in history. gay bashers are practically nonexistent in most urban western cities and can legally get married + movements like #metoo gave women a widespread voice which was nonexistent in the past. opening up about mental illnesses is encouraged in todays society whereas it was highly taboo and bottled up in the past. more and more people are becoming critical of the downsides of capitalism these days as well.
racism is still an issue but compared to the 80s/90s it HAS gotten better. the government isn't funnelling crack to black neighborhoods, residential schools dont exist, apartheid doesnt exist, and minorities are much more represented in media + society. financially, black people in america are much better off than they were 25 years ago. no, racism hasn't and probably never will be completely abolished but people acting like ZERO progress has been made are goofs. having a defeatist attitude that things will never change, even if true, accomplishes literally nothing.
disagree. massive monetary barriers exist in order to achieve revolutionary new tech.
we either need absolute dissolution of capitalism or some mechanism for directing large sums of $ to certain projects. redistribution does little in this field, you can have millions of well-off, highly educated scientists ... but under capitalism someone has to actually have the capital lol
Dispensing with capitalism would be very naive. Classic "throwing the baby out with the bathwater" scenario.
Free markets are extremely efficient at bringing about progress when the value and price of something coincide. That's because of the competitive hierarchies they create. Just look at how technology exploded in the last 50 years or so.
Isn't it better to fix problems with it and create some kind of hybrid system, than to throw the whole thing away?

dont necessarily think we should "dispense with capitalism", i was mostly just responding to that guy who thought wealth redistribution = tech revolution.
for the sake of discussion though, i dont think that free markets are ideal for radical tech advancements. they're solid for coming up with the latest soda variant or whatever, less so for goods with speculative/unclear economic benefits.
see: space travel, the internet, etc.
now, looks like we reached a point where companies/individuals have the wealth and know-how to force these advancements with or w/o consumer demand (spaceX and neuralink are good examples). whether that's good or bad is up to you.
Technology is progressing because the human race is progressing.
Only thing progressing is the population numbers. Not the issues at hand

Eh I say we’re progressing it’s just not on a fast route

The task force slowing dying with the new generation
human brain takes time to evolve cause what if we evolve in the wrong direction and take a step back at one point? As individuals we're still catching up to things we started doing 100 000 years ago like drinking alcohol
