But how can a mind (or anything for that matter) solely determine anything? Since everything in the universe has a cause and comes from something, I don’t see how can decision or thoughts can arise out of nowhere. It’s like trying to imagine a color that you’ve never seen.

I disagree that everything must come from something. Subatomic particles can pop into existence without any explanation. For what u say to be true there must be no randomness in the universe which I dont think is true.
One cant imagine a new color because colors are a construct of the brain. Either there are no new colors possible under our defintion of color, or there is but we are not equipped to comprehend them. Similar to hearing, we only get a subset of the possibilities

Monks sit for 6 hours to make themselves believe or at least feel like they are in control. They’re seeking peace, they’re not doing it for no reason. There is always a reason for doing something.

I should have said bodily/earthly reason. Youre right, any action taken will have reason, I think for free will it must be not a B/E reason but rather one from the mind solely

Isn’t free will basically a myth per current scientific understanding? Obviously it’s debatable.

I have mixed thoughts in regards to it, I basically think it’s beyond human comprehension

Yeah colors might exist that our brains can’t comprehend. There’s probably many things our brain can’t comprehend.

Maybe you can observe particles seemingly popping out of nowhere, but can you comprehend why this occurs? No, and that’s why you said it happens without any explanation. But that could just means that there’s no explanation YET. And “nowhere” or “nothing” are actually “somewheres” and “somethings” that our brains can’t comprehend yet or never will, like the colors example.

So if we define free will as decision of the mind made by the mind itself (coming out of nowhere), then our brains can’t comprehend the whole concept of free will yet, or never will. Only thing we can do is have faith that free will exists.

I agree with ur first 2 paragraphs. I think in the end free will discussions are somewhat fruitless since it all comes down to how its defined.

Free will in the literal sense is not real. If we had 100% free will that would imply the freedom of any choice regardless of morality. One can argue freedom of choice doesn’t mean freedom of consequences. But this doesn’t just apply to just morality. Laws in general are setup where we aren’t allowed to do things that are morally grey or green without consequence. Consequence and judgement are why we will never be free
