So basically, I’ve met a girl who’s really nice. There are genuinely a lot of green flags about her, and she’s really sweet. I like this girl a fair bit.

The only thing is, at 29 years old, I’ve actually never dated someone with her level of wealth before. I’ve had plenty of rich friends, but the people I’ve dated have usually been those who work in a solid professional career and grew up middle-class or lower. This girl is the opposite: very wealthy, but she just pursues passion projects 24/7 and didn’t need college.

I’m someone who grew up in Section 8 housing in NYC and am a second-generation American. I work in financial research now and do well for myself (>$200k income) with an advanced education, but I don’t have any savings or assets that compare to hers whatsoever (I’m still paying off debt + spent my money stupidly in my 20s).

I’m not exactly feeling insecure about the class differential between us, but I am feeling unsure of how to navigate social dynamics with her or how to fully understand her.

Do you guys have any advice? What do you think there is to understand about someone who is willing to date someone from a lower social class? You always hear the opposite — that people usually date across or upward when it comes to economic class.

    highkey brag thread

We’re not officially dating we’re just getting to know each other

I’m genuinely feeling insecure/unsure though, and I don’t have any people to ask in real life about this dynamic. None of my friends grew up in my situation

I’m worrying about not understanding the mindset she’s coming from. I usually have a good read on the girls I date intuitively, but with her it’s different

As long as she has a good head on her shoulders and doesn’t care to much about wealth then there shouldn’t be too much of a problem

  • "date me or I'll rob you"

    invite me to the wedding

if you're making over 200k with an advanced degree you're straight

I understand what you're saying about coming from different economic backgrounds, but it's like worrying about the appetizer being a little small during a 5 course dinner at a michelin star restaurant at this point

Ngl I just met a rich girl this weekend myself. Shes this light skin slim thick shorty from Scotland apparently. Shes an absolute dime and was even the one buying me drinks. I don't think she's looking for anything serious though because she said she works a lot so I'm just going with the flow. She invited me to goto this EDM festival with her and her friends in a couple weeks. She said she rented an RV

Her family owns a major wine vineyard she doesn’t work at all she just volunteers so it’s just way above what I could make in my lifetime

I’m just really worried about misreading her since we grew up so differently

  • By making them pay for everything

  • can she send me $100

if you already know in the back of your head her growing up with a silver spoon and you having to work to get there could be an issue, why even pursue the uncomfortable dynamic because of your alleged social/economic status? aim for women below your economic level today who can relate to your economic level in the past or who you won’t have to question the dynamic. I’m sure there’s plenty women you work with or around who weren’t raised on a vineyard lol

idk how you got to $200k and decided “time to ruin my peace worrying about a woman” but you got it lmfao

  • These aren’t real problems

I’m not saying that it’s an issue as in the dynamic between me and her; the issue that I’m worried about is I don’t fundamentally/intuitively understand this girl as I normally would compared to the people I have typically dated

People in the thread are saying I’m overthinking it and yeah, probably

all I’m asking for advice about is what are things that could come up that I wouldn’t expect or what those differences are and how they would show up if we got together
