It most definitely is what the conversation is about. If you want to speak on how my position is paid, I can most definitely speak on the military destabilization of foreign lands that you have (or may not have) the belief of doing so for freedom, or maybe free tuition, or some other perk that is not worth your life.

Ok man whatever I don’t care I’m about to get out anyway

If you haven't worked in a restaurant, stay out of the thread. You actually just wouldn't get it.

like waiters be gettin paid the wages they deserve tbh. There is no skill to the job. Its a s*** job to work, but you can quit anytime you want and pursue a better career path. There is honestly zero reason to tip other than just out of the kindness of your heart because they haven't done anything to deserve money from you.

Exactly how I feel. It’s a job that is stressful but essentially requires no skill or education whatsoever.

I think the restaurant should pay the workers properly and we should do away with tips like in almost every other country

Good! Go wait tables for 6 months at a nicer restaurant, and pay attention to a server that has been there 5+ years and compare them to you. They'll run circles around you and you'll be here telling people they don't deserve to be tipped.

Or how about I just don’t work in a restaurant? Lol you ever thought about that? Maybe just work a different entry level position that requires no skill.

I'm sure you're right right that you go through much more stress then

it doesn't look like you're gonna budge on this issue either though

I get how you feel, but waiters take these jobs knowing theyre making below minumum wage, and you go to these restaurants knowing the same, and that you're expected to tip. You don't owe them s***, but given those circumstances I think it's fair to expect that you give a halfway decent tip when you go out to a restaurant.

there are endless arguments against tipping -- 'they took the job, get one with a normal wage if you care about getting tips' etc.

But at the end of the day you're also making the decision to go out to eat and have someone wait on you, explain the dishes and make your experience as pleasant as possible. It shouldn't be this way but it is, and I don't think it's too much to ask that you go to a restaurant prepared to pay 15% more than the number on your check

Imagine going to a restaurant, having someone take your order, bring food to your table, check up on how your meal's doing, ask if you want any extra drinks, dessert etc, basically doing whatever you want, and calling them lazy and not worth a living wage because their job doesn't require enough skill

People who look down on waitstaff are WOAT, you do it yourself then if it's so low-skilled

I have a legit career and can easily say being a server was the hardest job Ive ever had . No one thinks you have to tip but you are exposing yourself to being rightfully criticized if you don't do it.

If you want the restaurant to pay the staff more you're meal is probably going to cost more

So just tip and don't be an a******

Yeah I totally agree. I almost always tip when I go eat. I just get pissed off when people feel entitled to something just for doing their job.

  • Jun 15, 2021

restaurants should pay workers properly, but until that happens, you should tip. i know the Waiters in the restaurant i work at make like, $2.50 an hour, so almost all their money comes from tips. If you don’t tip, you’re only hurting the waiter, not the restaurant that doesn’t pay them enough.
