  • I work in workers comp insurance. I just got a claim for a guy that weighs 540 POUNDS. He suffered a mild hairline fracture, but because he’s so huge he has to remain in an inpatient facility because his knee would shatter cuz of how big he is. Any normal person would be put in a boot and on their way

Anyway, i just found out he doesn’t have health insurance. I’m sorry, I get insurance is expensive and US healthcare sucks, but I simply do not understand how someone can have the money to shovel so much food into their body that they weigh OVER A QUARTER TON, but can’t set aside a little change for health insurance. I just don’t get it. If you’re going to be this fat you’d think you’d at least want one of your inevitable triple bypasses covered. How does this happen

OP why does it feel like you attribute fatness to individual choice (moral degeneracy/greed) rather than structural factors that have created an obesity crisis

    Dog it’s 540 lbs

I agree with that perspective for general normal overweight/fat people but 540 lbs is a you problem

Someone who eats enough to weigh that much is most likely severely mentally ill/depressed. You can’t expect them to think rationally. Look at that boogie2988 guy.

  • Most people with grey area addictions like that are always in denial. They are not your alcoholics or junkies, so it's like they can always stop, slow down or just plain have no issue, sad really

being obese just doesn't happen over night. People are introduced to poor eating habits from their parents early because of any number of factors. The weight builds over time. They never actively address the issue in their nutrition and they know no better as how to handle their health. Thus in my perspective "huh but how did they get FAT/OBESE like you have the money" nah bro. Rome didn't build itself in a day. This s*** is years on the making.

tldr most of these morbidly obese people just don't know better or know how to be better. we feed them the narrative that being fat af is cool and healthy so they usually don't think too much of health insurance and what not. Plus basics shut like losartan and metoprolol are usually discounted enough to just keep a pcp at hands reach for a yearly visit and blood test once a year.

You know what’s sadder? Living in a country where the majority of natives are fat as f*** and can’t even reach retirement age cause the colonisers brought them McDonalds and KFC

Hope you're doing better. Do you know any depressed people who have the opposite habits, like not eating a lot for example
