For two knowing music theory isn’t the end all be all, so many producers don’t know music theory and can still create amazing bodies of work.

Y’all gotta realize guys like mike Dean and Jon Brion and them know music theory and why they assist Kanye’s production. Kanye is a genius at sampling and assembling ideas and has a great ear. You don’t need music theory for that

And Kanye said drums were his weakness but I never believed this, you never though something about yourself that turned to be completely wrong ? His drums are always very creative in sound choice and programming, and you do need to know music theory to make great rythms

Fam trust me you don’t need to know music theory to do all that you mentioned especially with drums and having rhythm. Trust me not to be stereotypical but I’m black and got plenty of friends that played drums and all that in church and never ever studied music theory.

That’s what I’m referring to, I’m referring to actually sitting down and learning music theory because that s*** is way more than knowing how to program some cool drums and play a few notes by ear

yeah ok I get what you mean lol kind of a misunderstanding between us, I definitely dont think he ever sat down learning music theory or maybe just basic s*** like notes and bars, but yeah he definitely has a musical mind which understands musical concepts and theory in a very natural way, anyway you're right, appreciate the discussion

I wanna learn how to play the piano and compose/write melodies but don‘t know where to start and have no direction. It would be helpful to have a thread about it or a good youtube channel/playlist. Can somebody help me out?

Nah mos definitely fam lol yeah I was just meaning from the stand point of sitting down and studying music theory cus it’s so complex. I feel like this guy is just musically on another level of intelligence lmao how can you be more than 20 years into your carreer like that and still push the enveloppe of your sound and of music in general (as divisive as the results are), not that many artists are capable of this

I want to know it because it seems like an easy way to know more of what I'm doing with producing but I'd rather have a mentor or teacher that just teaches me to be better
