ThatgoatkidLots of times when I’m talking to friends or colleagues or acquaintances about music they really only know singles and random tracks and features unless it’s an artist they stan
For example they’ll rave about a specific nigga then when I ask they fav album from him they’ll be like “uhhhhh which one has this this and this song?” Them s***s will be from 3 different albumsOP I get what you're saying but you have to realize that many people are just casual listeners. I think that's the distinction that people are trying to convey to you. Not everyone is an audiophile. For example the average person can't tell the bit rate difference between a 320kbps mp3 file and a lossless file.

the way i look at it is that you can’t fault someone for being a casual as long as they don’t give their opinion on the subject
for example, idgaf about sports. if someone asked me my favorite team, i’m not gonna name a random team & pretend like i have any reason to call them my favorite, i’ll just say whichever team is closest to my hometown or something. and, rightfully, sports fans couldn’t care less about my opinions on sports after finding this out, although they’ll still encourage me to get into sports from time to time bc i have a p****.
but there is one difference, in that music casuals still give their opinions like they’re actually dedicated listeners, but in reality, they probably couldn’t name an album cut that wasn’t released as a single off anyone but their favorite’s albums

I only listen to albums once when searching for new music, and only keep what I like and skip songs after a minute or so if I don't like it. If someone asked me about an album, I'm only going to remember the ones I liked

I couldn't agree more. Also, don't tell me "____ sucks" if you're not even familiar with anything outside of their biggest hits. You'd be surprised by how many people I've encountered back in the day that thought Wayne was nothing more than Lollipop, Got Money, How to Love, etc. They weren't even familiar with his mixtapes, album cuts, etc. Casuals think hits completely define each artist, but that's usually not the case.
