Yeah I just had interview today for a high paying job and started looking all the thing I can do with the hypothetical money. First was retirement.
I did the numbers and I’d need about 2 million dollars saved after taxes in order to retire at 50, assuming I die at 80, with 70k a year.
I currently make 90k a year before taxes and I’m 25. 90,000 * 25 = 2,250,000. So if I never got taxed and ALL of my income got saved it’d take me 25 years to get there. 35 years if consider taxes (90k becomes ~60k after taxes), and again that’s if I save 100% of every paycheck I get. It’ll take 70 years if I save half of every paycheck.
This is on top of raising home prices, record inflation, global recession, a land war in Europe, climate change, deforestation, raising cancer rates, global mental health crisis, no Airbnb in nyc, and dispensaries closing.
Honestly I’m done. I’m done with money. I’m done with productivity, I’m done with clout. Done with status. Done with legacy. Done with corporate. Done sucking d*** and kissing ass. Honestly ima go back to working remote and traveling. Because, it’s over. If you thought going to school and getting a job was gonna set up forever you’re wrong. It’s not your fault we all got lied to. They replaced pensions with unlimited pto and office snacks.
How do you live?
You must think pretty low of yourself if you're calculating your retirement with the idea that you would never get a raise over the next 35 years

One of the dumbest posts I’ve ever read..Ever heard of compound interest? Index Funds? Dividend reinvestments?
Max out your 401k. Open up a Vanguard/Fidelity account. Put all spare money into it. Have millions at retirement age or much earlier, depending on goals and lifestyle.
it is what it is just do whatever makes you happiest and enjoy this time you have on this earth

Ever heard of OP not being gay?
I've never been the one to plan out things so far in advance like this, I'm more concerned about making it to the end of the day/week. There is too many things that can happen over the years, both good and bad. Best to just live in the present and let life cary you along as you contemplate it's mystery and meaning.
Plus I drink and watch a lot of movies and take naps.

I would need a $135,000 salary to take home 90k. The it’d still take an additional 25 years to retire.
What company is giving out $45,000 raises?

Boy who gave you an interview for a 90K salary job lmao what were they thinking
Niggas talking about compound interest.
Like the maybe 10% I get from it is going to move the needle. Like if I have 100k saved and get 10% back that’s only 10k.
I need a million.
OP, in your next interview if they ask you what your career goals are, just tell them about your 5 year plan where you want to be looking for a new job by year 2 and then by year 5 quit that job and flip houses full time through your own real estate company that you built from nothing in just 3 years.

You’re young, take risk. Put money to side via 401k, IRA, savings, CD, Bonds etc and invest separate money in the market. Put money in the mattress for all I care. Talk to a financial professional.
