Nice, I will check those out. If you have any recs on any places to look for grime/jungle/garage/dubstep (like digital Mystikz dubstep not brostep bullshit) shows lmk!
I don't know many venues cause im from Birmingham and currently live up north unfortunately
You a fan of Skream?
Grime (and its predecessors) didn't care about the rapper until way into the 2000s. So like for 20 years it was more about the DJ. I would say that stopped in the early 80s in the USA, maybe even in the late 70s.
the 80s yeah, then djs became producers & hosts
it still had its own electric era & many more, it isnt just disco like someone said itt
the sound diversified right away into jazz, funk, soul, gospel, electronic etc. especially when it started hitting other parts on the east & other sides
It only stayed contained for like one to 2 years in the mid 70s
so why did it switch to rapping
How is this not hip hop
English niggas trying too hard to be different yet again
Aside from the explanation Goon gave, the beats are way different and it’s at a different BPM. The style of rapping is also completely different and generally more focused on “reload bars” and such cuz it’s meant to be played in a rave setting. Grime MCs and hip hop MCs are trying to do two fundamentally different things

You a fan of Skream?
Yes, big fan of his early stuff. Been listening to him for years
His remix of Ancient Memories is still one of the hardest tracks ever
Oh and I’m going to Bristol for a day too
No they dont, they are rapping now
MCing is different, which also is how Rap started
MCing was the adlibbing to the DJ, which came from Jamaica as well
Then MCing evolved into Rapping where now the artist is the main part, no longer the dj/beat
MC was and still is a common term as well here, but theyre not literally MCing.
Here you can hear more typical MCing with a late garage/early grime group (So Solid Crew, one of the originators of the genre).
Of course grime MCs are influenced by US rappers though. This influence probably became strong from the late 2000s until the mid 2010s, but since then there has been a revival of more traditional grime.
Nah UK hip hop is different in origin and style
A lot of grime mcs do both though

They’re two completely different type of MCing. And that statement is patently false lol dancehall and dub MCs were essentially rapping over their s*** before hip hop. And grime owes more to that style than it does hip hop
We djdnt create garage to be fair
You created 2 step garage but not garage as whole. People usually talking about 2 step when they talk garage tho so I get what he means
only good thing uk has brought to this world is uk garage and grime
UK Soul music >>>
Naaa that falls under hip hop i will argue this all day
I used to say the same but nah they're different. Grime is obviously influenced by hip hop as seen with rapping. But other genres have also incorporated elements from hip hop and remained their own separate genre, like trip hop even pop music nowadays too
Some of yall are just completely incapable of even trying to learn about scenes you’re ignorant about the disrespect in here is crazy and it sucks because yall are missing out on some of the most amazing music if you actual took the time to give it a shot and learn
And yall know I be hating Europeans so if I’m defending them yall f***ed up
I used to think grime was hip-hop too but then I looked into its history and I realized I was wrong. It has a totally different evolution, development and history than hip-hop.
It goes
Caribbean sound system culture -> dub music -> jungle music -> drum & bass + garage -> grime
USA went from sound system culture to hip-hop pretty quickly.
MCing existed before hip-hop
Listen to any reggae record from the 70s
Listen to any drum & bass record and tell me thats hip-hop with a straight face dawg
Cool but ima say it again anything that has rapping in it (the art of rhyming over beats) is hip hop
Rap and hip hop are the same

Think this the misconception tho. The style of rappinng/mc has been done for a minute, blues, dancehall, reggae and spoken word has done it.
It's just that hip hop took it to a whole another level
