Cool but ima say it again anything that has rapping in it (the art of rhyming over beats) is hip hop
Rap and hip hop are the same
How can you rap without it being hip hop? you cant deny the roots
DUB AND DANCEHALL MCS WERE RHYMING OVER BEATS BEFORE THEY EVER HEARD OF HIP HOP OR BEFORE HIP HOP EXISTED
How many f***ing times do people have to tell you this. Yall being willfully ignorant

Rap music and hip-hop are the same in todays terms yes.
But with hip-hop we mean the genre that comes from New York City.
It is possible to rap (or MC) without it being hip-hop. Dancehall has MCs, dub has MCs, reggae has MCs, and a bunch of electronic genres have MCs (these later became grime).
It's like saying the genre is "singing", it doesn't make sense. Rock can have singing, pop can have singing.
BTW, a lot of nu-metal and corny 90s rock has rapping too, but I wouldn't call it hip-hop.
Here you can hear more typical MCing with a late garage/early grime group (So Solid Crew, one of the originators of the genre).
Of course grime MCs are influenced by US rappers though. This influence probably became strong from the late 2000s until the mid 2010s, but since then there has been a revival of more traditional grime.
Ty, youre the first one that actually broke it down instead of saying vague s*** or just insulting & I ask this question everytime a thread like this gets brought up
Im not a fan personally of the straight up Rapping style of EU/UK (although I do have an occasional song here n there I do like). I do enjoy UK Garage.
And I especially always loved the Alt RnB scene over there n was on it early af such as James Blake, Sampha, FKA Twigs etc. since 2010/2011
I appreciate it

are u referring to toasting ?
I used to say the same but nah they're different. Grime is obviously influenced by hip hop as seen with rapping. But other genres have also incorporated elements from hip hop and remained their own separate genre, like trip hop even pop music nowadays too
Im not denying that its its own subgenre but to say it doesnt fall under hip hop when you can also call it “uk rap” is silly

UK rap is a totally different genre with a different tradition, sound and vibe
are u referring to toasting ?
More or less yes. He’s literally saying specifically that “rhyming over a beat” is inherently hip hop. Which is not the case

The funniest part is you thought this could be “too aggressive”
Cute

Not a fan of the song in op tho, isnt aggressive to me just comes messy & obnoxious

From what i understand is that the modern era is influenced by Rap.
But it didnt start out that way but had a similar development story, but more electronic focused as a whole (while US did still have that such as West's "Electro" short lived era, but wasnt as a whole).
They had their own Jamaican natives that they built up from, n then it start apeing some US stuff in the 00s. And now in the 10s to now everything is a melting pot.
Now I understand the cousin talk.

In simple terms
Grime:
UK hip hop:
UK hip hop is pretty much what u hear out here but with a uk accent
No one denying hip hop and its roots, we're just saying grime isnt really hip hop it's own separate thing
Its basically one of those things of "if u take the same origin/thing to two diff places will it develop the same" brain teaser
N in this case basically yes
