This is a natural progression for kids growing up in 2021. Rap, r&b is what you grow with then you leave that bubble and want to branch out. No coincidence there are more rock, pop, reggaeton, etc.. threads on KTT now than ever before. Kids are growing up. Rap is also at its worst point ever so theres so FOMO going on

Its entirely my own fault but over the past few years I just leaned super heavily into these genres and yeah my favorite music is definitely hip-hop and r&b but I just found myself ignoring other genres entirely

I was recently shown Tame Impala (more than just the few big songs) and it absolutely blew my mind..Im getting back into rock music again and alternative and even some old country and I (personally) feel that there's a lot more substance to a lot of it than a lot of the trap I was listening to

Edit: I still have such a love for R&B and hip-hop and its totally okay to only listen to this Im just super excited to get more music in my life

underground hip hop but check out edm to even old dance music also check out house trance music vocal to

    dancehall soca reggaeton

hmm maybe this was a s*** thread in retrospect

no. it really isn't. this is a music forum and you're in discovery. the thread may be a shocker to kttmz but you're fine.

anyway...shoutout to the people who already contributed. there's some great stuff throughout the thread. i saw you mention guitars and songwriting as two specific aspects important to you so i'll recommend a few more in that realm. enjoy fam

    nai palm - needle paw

I asked if you were black to have a better understanding of your music journey, that’s it. I’m not suggesting anything else. Race is very important to this as well, and being aware of the role that race plays in music is a big part of understanding the different music cultures you expose yourself to

With that being said, Joni Mitchell, Nine Inch Nails, Daft Punk, Marvin Gaye, James Brown, Earth Wind & Fire, Stevie Wonder, Prince for some introductory non hiphop if you aren’t super familiar

Im sorry there was just a lot of race arguing earlier ITT about people dismissing hip-hop being racist and the like so that was a bad assumption on my part

Word Ill be sure to check out Stevie & Prince, NIN is not for me but the others will also make the list to check out

    Thanks friend
