I would like to be able to code well enough that I can properly utilize the skillset to build what I want.
I have ideas, like websites and tools that I could use coding for.
I don't want to spill the beans but there is a couple projects I've thought about that would make for good business ventures.
It wouldn't just be for money, I could use it to integrate my own interests into businesses for myself.
Coding at a software company could be a job I use to make ends meet In an office where im not tearing my body apart doing manual labor like my parents did and then use these skills to build projects that I want in my off-time.
These types of jobs pay very well even in my low income area. So learning how to code on a professional level would be invaluable for me.
I wouldn't have a mindless cog in the wheel for long, and while I am I would at least be financially stable in the short term while I work on my passion projects.
Seems like you’ve thought this through, I would just add that no-code tools are becoming increasingly popular as well as outsourcing the building part to another country. People raising money now sometime dont even have the product built, and investors don’t care.
Anyway to go to SWE, three paths:
Coding camps are pretty good nowadays at setting you up for a job right after
Agreed. I don't have the safety to do so yet since I'm only on my first real job, but in a few years hopefully I'll be in a similar spot to you and can leave
All the best
Had you saved up enough to retire? What’re you doing now?
Nah only saved up for 1-2 years of not working and living in large cities
I’m going to travel a lot right now and be in major tech hubs and around people that are doing s***
Now I do like infra work for a genetics lab. I’m really enjoying learning the bio stuff and leaning into that even if the pay isn’t as good
That’s great happy you found something interesting and enjoyable

I can't imagine quitting job that pays this much, I've worked wack jobs with bad pay and still sucked it up.
I got bored with coding in college. I enjoy doing Systems/Network Admin and Engineering. A lot more things to get hands on, plus I can put what I know with coding with it. I get to travel out and do field work whenever I want to too.

i didnt really feel any fulfillment from the fact we were saving lives since i never really interacted with any customers/patients, it just felt like work and i was bored/burnt out at the end of my contract

I’ll agree that I wouldn’t have quit if they didn’t give me an exit package

Stereotypical corporate soul-sucking and utterly meaningless way to spend 40 hours/week of my life

U think you’d have felt better just switching companies somewhere with a better culture and reasonable hours?
Why? It’s depressing and unfulfilling and just doing it for the money will give you golden handcuffs that will make you hate your life and be unable to do anything about it either
About to enter the market for a quality assurance job and you’re scaring me!
