Alright I had to shut it off. Somebody ruined the fun
They wrote a script to spam MBDTF losing to Souljaboytellem.com so no results are gonna get saved until I can delete all of the fake votes and figure out how to secure the http endpoint better. Took about 12 hours before someone decided to f*** with it

yeah the internet will always ruin everything for everyone all the time. it’d probably be a worse sign if it didn’t get immediately ruined lol
if you can isolate the script votes to easily remove them based on timestamp or anything else you should be fine. Or if atlas has frequent backups you can roll back to

yeah I was able to query the database and find all the fraudulent votes. As far as I can tell this was the first time the matchup of the two albums appeared so I can just delete all of them. They were only able to add 187 fake votes into the results. Lucky I caught it early

Update your OP so people know it’s under maintenance

lmaooooo wow
Alright first off sorry to anyone that dug that site that it was down for an entire week after only being up 12 hours. Basically what happened was when I initialized developed it I took some pretty big shortcuts when it came to accessing my data. This was a lot quicker and easier but it also left my endpoints completely exposed and vulnerable. All anyone needed to do manipulate the data was hit those endpoints. @S pointed out these security flaws almost immediately but at the time I was just counting on nowhere caring enough about my dumb rankings to mess with it....I was obviously wrong. It's what I get for underestimating the internet honestly.
But to fix that meant migrating to a full MERN stack which meant learning how to use express and how to create a sort of custom api. Which took a little bit of time. I also adding in some result validation that should make it more annoying to try to post results that didn't originate on the website. I doubt I made it impossible though. I'm not even sure if that's realistically achievable. But hopefully now it really is more trouble than it's worth. We'll see if the site stays up for more than 12 hours this time.
The bad news is that all of this meant moving the site's hosting off of firebase and that could mean the cookie I was using keep track of your personal results the site no longer has access to. So I'm pretty sure everyone is going to have to start off. Sorry to the person out there that voted on over 3k pairs.
I also kept the site down a couple days longer as an opportunity to add a couple performance updates that were creeping up last week. As well as two new features.
UNDO BUTTON - There's now an undo button for everyone that requested it.
Ranking refresh button - If you're just sitting on the ranking page watching it update like I know one person said they were doing last week, there's now a refresh button to update the rankings. This is going to be a lot quicker than refreshing the entire page because instead of re-downloading all 40k results it just grabs the ones that have been submitted since you loaded the page.
Anyways, again, thanks everyone for the positive feedback last week. Hopefully everything goes well now but who knows. I literally have no clue what I'm doing
rankabl.io
Pretty easy to use I think. It just shows you two random albums. Pick the one you prefer and then it calculates a ranking based off the data points.
After Rolling Stone put out their list I wanted to know what a list made by actual hip-hop fans would look like. But I couldn't find a website that would allow me to crowdsource a ranking the way I wanted to. So I just decided to build my own. The only problem there is the fact that I don't know how to code.
So yeah, if the whole thing flops or crashes and breaks immediately, or takes forever to load, or is filled with bugs...idk how to code so idk what you expected. It was a fun project while work was slow over the summer.
UPDATE: UNDER MAINTENANCE
Somebody f***ed with the ranking by writing a script that spams the same result over and over. Currently working on a way to prevent that from happening again.
UPDATE 2:
So so dope
