How are these 2 things related?

they’re both things only dumbasses would actually believe

  • Jul 7, 2021

Don Mattrick really f***ed the Xbox greatly even before the Xbox One.

He and another guy who was the one handle budgets for games at Xbox is the reason why Xbox had no new IP's or exclusive games for YEARS.

Took a console that was doing amazing and f***ed the s*** up.

I will say Xbox is in a good space now though, Game Pass is amazing and there is a lot of exclusive games coming soon. Once they start hitting I think it will be a new era for Xbox.

Thinking gaming corporations are creating new ways to capitalize profits is something a dumbass would believe?

Nah fam, Microsoft really loves ya, their priority is definitely gamers not money.

They are still f***ing up the gaming industry, the difference now tho is they effectively made it seem really gamer friendly.

Gamepass sounds really good now, but a decade from now we won't be able to play games unless we are paying monthly fees.

Just like they f***ed us by making us pay for multiplayer services which made Sony do the same. Sony will eventually realize how profitable Gamepass is, and make something similar.

    F*** Microsoft in general.

That's legit not true. Due to the ever revolving cycle of games coming in and out of Game Pass it would make zero sense for hardware manufacturers or publishers to strictly have their games in a monthly subscription. The licensing alone would be a nightmare.

At the end of the subscription services like Game Pass or EA Play will always only be other options to make more money. The ability to full out buy the games will always be there and probably will never go away. I do see in the future that those games will be digital only (physical media is on it's way out) but there will always be an option to purchase the game.

Also Game Pass was not the first to come with this type of monthly pass. Things similar to this have been around going back to OnLive in 2009.

i bet you also think 5G caused COVID

That’s how good Sony got it with their fanbase lol.

They can warp themselves into thinking gamepass is bad for the consumers and $70 games is good for the consumers.

All im saying is if you still got an old console, you can load up any game you still got for it.

That wouldn't be possible in the near future when games are restricted in some kind of monthly service.

Sure you may still buy 3rd party games, but 1st party games? They'll surely make sure you gotta pay first.

Basically you wouldn't be able to own all your games in the future no matter how much you paid before

Same thing with multiplayer now a days; you enjoy playing COD multiplayer? You gotta make sure to keep paying if you still want to play.

It would make no sense for Microsoft to lock you to purely Game Pass when they can also get $60+ out of you as well. From a business perspective it makes more sense to have multiple ways for you to get into said first party games.

Also your argument in general could applied to the whole industry outside of Nintendo purely off digital games alone. Eventually PS4 servers will go down and playing an updated version of a game will be impossible because the servers will be down to play said game. Same for the Xbox One as well. We already almost went through with this when Sony was saying they were gonna shutdown the PS3 servers.

What you are trying to argue is a bigger problem than just Game Pass in general so what are you trying to say?

I'm not saying gamepass is the only problem, but surely will become a problem just like digital games as you said.

The problem here is you pay money but do not fully own the game, and services like gamepass make sure you fully do not own them.

Sony does something similar, for example you get monthly games to download when you pay for PS+, but as soon as your monthly subscription ends, these games are locked until you pay again.

These are definitely problems, and something these companies do to ensure maximum profit.

You can not tell me they are doing this out of the good of their heart, they are trying to make sure you keep paying up.

Again, the example of multiplayer. Before, you would buy a game, and can play online all you want (like in the PS3), now you gotta keep paying a monthly fee or else a big feature of a game you own no longer becomes available.

Gamepass is making the entire game you paid for, regardless offline or online unavailable unless you keep paying.

Sure you can buy it separately now, but the whole idea of gamepass is trash. I know they'll eventually make sure games are only made exclusively for gamepass eventually.

I think Gamepass is gonna screw MSFT in the long run too, they can't really hike up the price of it because (most) people realistically probably play nothing more than 1-4 titles regularly with the Gamepass. If that price outweighs paying for the base game they'll lose out on that consistent recurring income.

Then imagine some dumb controversy happens and a bunch of 'gamers' dump the pass and MSFT goes under because they put all their eggs in one basket.

It's sort of like Netflix streaming in that instance, where in some ways I'm expecting them to go under because content as a service has become so ubiquitous, that it makes people become more picky with what they choose. Back in the day it was only Netflix and Hulu, but now there are what? Like a hundred streaming services now?

Never said they were doing this out the good of their heart. At the end of the day it's a business and Microsoft is looking for ways to maximize profits. Although I will say they haven't turned a profit on Game Pass yet.

What I will say is that we are kind of already at that point where you don't own the game. When you buy a digital game in general you don't really own the game because it is based on how long PS/Xbox/Nintendo keeps up the servers.

I already personally experienced that with the Wii when they closed down the Wii Shop and now there is digital exclusive Wii titles that are forever lost to the void unless you installed those games to the Wii prior to them shutting it down.

I get where you're coming from with online play. That is the one thing I do criticize Microsoft for, they are the ones who brought paid online to the industry and now everyone does it. Those costs don't even really improve the experience as we've seen with the various outages and less than stellar online from Nintendo with the Switch and at this point I do think it's really dumb.

But like I said before, I do not think Game Pass will be the only way to get games in the future, that would literally make no sense to lock their titles exclusively to a monthly subscription. We will in the future maybe see games catered around Game Pass like episodic content similar to Life is Strange but even then I can see them giving the option purchase it as well.

It doesn't make sense for Microsoft, Sony or Nintendo to lock out a way for you to get a game. They are gonna provide multiple options because that's just more way of getting money. Same with the Movie Industry. Yes, you can watch X movie on Netflix but you also have the ability to purchase a digital copy or possibly even a physical copy depending on the movie. There is and will always be options to media in general.

I think you just have very pessimistic view to it and I don't think that's the end goal for Microsoft or anyone in the industry in general.

True, but as long as they keep hyping up and creating more first party games (same way Netflix keeps making new shows/movies), people will keep paying imo.

The only way this gets flipped is if MS really fumbles the bag with most games they release.

Yeah you're probably right, I was thinking that maybe some services like Amazon, Google, or Nvidia might come in bankroll their own exclusives and lock them down on their own cloud gaming platforms with some Gamepass models and create even more competitors.

But man MS doesn't have a good game selection imo.

I Believe, eventually, most games will be locked on some type of service. You want to play the newest Halo? Gotta have Gamepass, wanna play the newest God of War? Gotta have PSnow.

They are taking away your right to own stuff.

Just like with the movies/shows industry, there is now multiple services you gotta subscribe to for different shows/movies.

I actually think back when MS first let EA play be on Xbox that they were just trying to see how to do their own service lol. It's eventually going hit harder soon like you said.

That's not true though? The 360 was popular because it had the better online component with XBL, a better party system, and was easier to make games for due to the PS3's architecture being harder for programmers. 360 just had the games, PS3 had games and blu ray capability made it the better home entertainment system lol

Blu ray players at the time cost almost as much as the PS3 itself back then, so people opted for it over just a blu ray, hell some people didn't even use it to play games.
