I think Gamepass is gonna screw MSFT in the long run too, they can't really hike up the price of it because (most) people realistically probably play nothing more than 1-4 titles regularly with the Gamepass. If that price outweighs paying for the base game they'll lose out on that consistent recurring income.

Then imagine some dumb controversy happens and a bunch of 'gamers' dump the pass and MSFT goes under because they put all their eggs in one basket.

It's sort of like Netflix streaming in that instance, where in some ways I'm expecting them to go under because content as a service has become so ubiquitous, that it makes people become more picky with what they choose. Back in the day it was only Netflix and Hulu, but now there are what? Like a hundred streaming services now?

I dont believe any of this to be true in the future regarding microsoft

That's not true though? The 360 was popular because it had the better online component with XBL, a better party system, and was easier to make games for due to the PS3's architecture being harder for programmers. 360 just had the games, PS3 had games and blu ray capability made it the better home entertainment system lol

Blu ray players at the time cost almost as much as the PS3 itself back then, so people opted for it over just a blu ray, hell some people didn't even use it to play games.

If HD DVD won the format war back in 07-08 PS3 would of really been deaded lmao.

Microsoft tried to turn a Xbox one into a multimedia machine that can watch you pick your nose

Sony soy boys still trying to push their 'game pass isn't for the people and ruined gaming' narrative

Enjoy what you have and quit being weirdos

That era between Windows 8, Windows Phone, and Xbox One was a weird time for Microsoft. A lot of interesting ideas, just poorly executed with no developer support.

That's legit not true. Due to the ever revolving cycle of games coming in and out of Game Pass it would make zero sense for hardware manufacturers or publishers to strictly have their games in a monthly subscription. The licensing alone would be a nightmare.

At the end of the subscription services like Game Pass or EA Play will always only be other options to make more money. The ability to full out buy the games will always be there and probably will never go away. I do see in the future that those games will be digital only (physical media is on it's way out) but there will always be an option to purchase the game.

Also Game Pass was not the first to come with this type of monthly pass. Things similar to this have been around going back to OnLive in 2009.

S*** even before OnLive. Sega had a subscription service in the 90s that never caught on. I remember seeing this on gaming historian and being like You could download Sonic and other Sega games. Then remember the 64DD that never became a thing.
