Idk Dune felt pretty empty theme wise for a Villeneuve movie. Like it was pretty plain and simple, compared to his other stuff
I don't think its the timing that makes Dune better received than BR2049, and I'm speaking mainly in terms of box office numbers. I think BR2049 has gorgeous cinematography and atmosphere but Dune has forward momentum.
Just in terms of story structure, it works better than BR2049, stakes are raised earlier on in the film, and there's actual obstacles in the way of goals, whereas with Gosling's character, he just goes places and gets what he wants no pressure.
This is wrong tho. There's a literal book he's following. Like there's not a secret of whats to come. Only question is how Denis chooses to tackle it.
i feel like a lot of this thread is not understanding that both of these films are vasssstly different because they're vassstly different approaches. There's reasonings behind pretty much all of their differences and only one of them is directly pulling from source material
Dune wasn't like that because it was Denis, it was like that because its the first half of Dune by Frank Herbert represented as good as we've seen in the 40 years of difficult and failed attempts adaptations
Thank you, since I have plenty of time I will try to read Dune:)
2048 is just a Blade Runner rehash. Ridleys is much better.
Dune is more original and overall a better movie.
How is it a rehash?
Blade Runner inspired Akira feel like you anime nerds would have more respect for it
I feel like Dune 2 is just going to be more of Dune 1, people shouldn't pretend that the first movie was like this because it's just the beginning, it was like that because it's Villineuve.
And Yes, BR2049 is much better then Dune.
What Denis did with 2048 is impressive, sequels don’t usually pan out
But it’s in the shadow of the original and can’t come out of it
It’s not tho
If 2048 is better than the OG then Force Awakens is better than New Hope
Basically the same rehashes going on
Do you know what a rehash is? 2049 is not that lol
Dune was incredible
I totally get the criticism that not much happened. But to me, I loved the fact it felt like the first part of an epic story and I have the next part to look forward to. It's like that feeling after you've just read the first book of a great series.
Dune will be a trilogy so we will see more besides world building which br2049 and other movies have to include to explain to viewers. Denis having a full sci fi trilogy is one of the most exciting things to happen
Dune part 2 is going to have to be tremendous to top BR
I think I got too much baggage with the lore to ever be satisfied by what he's gonna do with it

how is an adaption of a book that's already had a previous movie adaptation original.
