we mostly talked about music and movies and guitars and s*** and he kept saying he had never met anyone who liked the same stuff that he didhe also asked his friend to ask their friend to ask me out, and my friend said that means he had been like "watching me" for a while

Therapy needs to be free or extremely affordable. There is a mental health crisis for men that isn't talked about, because they've largely been told to "tough it out" their entire lives. Not on any of this weird social paradox of "male vs. female" stuff, but it really is a rough time for most men 18- 24 now.
