This dude has been making the same f***ing movie for almost 20 years now. The last thing I dug was Fantastic Mr Fox.

I saw the trailer for his new film and rolled my eyes - centre framed shots, quirky deadpan emotional-less characters/acting, whimsical music, distinct color palattes etc. it's the same thing he's done a million times before.

Is there any other director who's this far up his own ass?

it's true that his movies can be boiled down to all those things that you listed but the crazy thing is that some people actually like those aspects to his films

I think what you point out prevents him from being a great director in my eyes, but regardless I still try to appreciate him for what he has to offer. Some directors are versatile and some aren’t (and he isn’t, to a at-times frustrating degree), but either way talent can still be displayed
