Domo Genesis & The Alchemist - No Idols
Domo understood the assignment!! The Alchemist is probably one of the best producers alive.
This mixtape is so underrated the samples are crazy and get Domo into this more aggressive flow. The feature list is rare: Tyler, Earl, Vince Staples, Action Bronson, Smoke DZA, Freddie Gibbs & Spaceghostpurrp, all delivered. It’s different than the usual OF sound but aged well and could might as well be a new album. Really really like it and would recommend any rap fan to check it out regardless of being an OF fan.
Fav songs: Prophecy, All Alone, Power Ballad, Till The Angels Come, No Idols.
This tape is fire
All Alone and Gamebreaker are special
Rolling Papers and No Idols are both 2 of the best OF tapes from their initial run
Domo was fantastic in OF, essential member he added a lot to their hip hop credibility and also is a way better lyricist than he gets credit for
I hope he gets a Madlib tape or another Alc tape bc he would deliver

His evidence stuff is really f***ing good
Evidence and conductor are 2 people I need to see more projects from
Frank's Grammy win:

!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=djv1XkoswRQIt’s so crazy that they were that young and immature (not a bad thing) and dude had already dropped channel orange

Maybe i should give it another spin
This song came out around the same time:

Earl was 18 tyler was 21 s*** is crazy
They got so much criticism and scrutiny and they were young as s*** lmao

Hmm
It was one of my favorites from that year but maybe the expectation didn’t align with the product? I hadn’t heard and domo at that point I think and checked it out for the features, I was expecting current Earl sort of stuff and it delivered on that front for me

They’re at the Grammys and Earl and Tyler are just acting foolish 😭 must have been a really surreal thing
Domo Genesis - Rolling Papers
It's pretty cool like, I got high for this and it didn't blow my mind or anything but some highlights here, nice d***gy production by Tyler and a nice chill vibe for the album, plus I like the cover and title I think Domo can go hard with it. Sometimes a little too chill and I like weed rap in general so it says something when it sounds more lowkey than Wiz and Curren$y. Still it's an album that knows what it wants to be and shows some of Domo's potential. Overall pretty good and I can see myself going back to it if I'm faded and see it being a grower.
Fav songs: Domier, Rolling Papers, Steamroller, Last Roll.
kickin it prolly one of domo's most underrated songs tbh
Kinda wild that No Idols and Channel Orange came out of the same group that's like two classics on two opposite spectrums
MellowHype - Numbers
Sadly pretty weak for MellowHype, apart for a few highlights this album leans more into the mainstream sound of those years, like somebody like Wayne or Big Sean could go over these songs, and this used to be a pretty dark grim sound for OF with just a little bit of “swag”. Makes you appreciate the style of the earlier projects a bit more and it sucks that in a year where a lot of members showed development, while this sounds more defined it’s forgettable.
Fav songs: Grill, 65 / Breakfast, P2, Break.
Never liked Numbers tbh
Hodgy said he was dealing with alcohol addiction pretty severely when making this album
65/Breakfast is one of the best OF songs though and astro and p2 are cool

Astro one of the weakest Frank hooks
I’d rather listen to Hell or Rico
Never understood why they hyped an album called Numbers with singles like 50, 64, 65 etc.. then used regular names for the actual songs on the album
jet age never really did it for me but their final album was solid.
Underrated song
I liked Under The Influence at the time, still has a couple songs I like
PNL one of my favs, i love that early matt production sm
PNL is a classic for me too. Ode to a Dream, Gurl (love Pyramid Vritra verse), Lovesong, Web of Me, Visions
Coco O. vocals fit their production so well, wish we had more collabs between them
Trash Talk - 119
Not really my thing as I don't know s*** about hardcore punk but it's cool ig and I like the song with Hodgy and Tyler. Not much of a review really but share your thoughts if you played this.

Should I play this one? I hated their first two. would make the list an even 25 but not sure.
