    @oatmilk

Yo I typed all this shxt up in response to your post only to hit "submit" and the thread was locked so I'mma make this thread. I think it's a pretty decent take that might inspire some discussion

This is in response to a post in ktt2.com/will-gkmc-and-tpab-forever-be-kendricks-best-works-32524102/2

I don't know how much you know about either of their creative processes but regardless of how you personally feel about either of their albums, Objectively they are very accomplished artists who have released numerous critically and culturally relevant projects.

They also each think a LOT about what they actually release and make quite a bit of changes.

Thinking about it now, you could make a comparison like this.
Keep in mind, I'm making this a comparison by looking at the themes, the "growth" and reflection of the artist shown on the albums
    GKMC - College Dropout
These albums both have themes of a young black male realizing their potential despite the environment and pathway society has set for them, Kendrick is a "Good Kid" in Compton, He sees all this violence around him, he sees his friends involved in gun violence and many of the struggles African American youth deal with, Despite being in this environment, he is an "alien", an outsider because he strives for something better

Kanye West is the same in College Dropout, It's not a straight narrative conceptually like GKMC but College Dropout is about again a young black male striving for something greater than what their environment is saying they NEED to be

I'm not tryna write a whole fkn book so I'll just say this,
Listen to Sherane and then listen to School Spirit.

Rap, Trap, wageslave or go to the league.

    TPAB - Late Registration

    DAMN - Graduation

    Mr Morale - 808s
In the face of great expectations with your art, dealing with celebrity, dealing with being a person living a life, Kanye / Kendrick created albums that are at their heart, a personal album, "I made this for me" when you feel like every one is waiting for something that will please them

I spent like 20 minutes writing this shxt up so you better at least put some mfking respek on it, you AOL Avatar ass having nigga
    Thank you
These are both artists I really enjoy their albums and in my nutcase head, I like to think me and these artist's share a common gemini spirit which makes me want to deeply think about the music.

seeing someone say 'nibba' makes me lose respect for them & their opinion tbh

Although I don’t really agree that they have a similar trajectory. Sure they tackle a lot of the same themes in their albums in their own way, but what Kanye did (and where it landed him) from 03-16 is an unprecedented run. And no, Kendrick did not mimic that at all

Seeing Kenny open for Kanye for the Yeezus Tour was amazing

  • Jun 15, 2022

Uhh yeah its known Kendrick takes inspiration from Ye

And they both have a lot in common, like their falling back on religion in times of need etc.

Don't really see the full comparison however, but yeah

    I don’t hate this take but I don’t agree

GKMC and TPAB both rival MBDTF for 2010s AOTD so as great as CD and LR were I don’t think they are equivalent

The Damn/Graduation comparison I can kinda see if I squint my eyes a lil bit but 808s compared to Mr Morale is wild

Every album I just named a classic tho so who really gives a s*** what we think
