for a collab album of that proportion, it was super disappointing. especially since they both dropped Lemonade and 4:44 two years beforehand.
Hov discog looking more and more like Nas' every album lol
That Bey/Jay-Z album.is another late career stumble for Hov too.
I ain't forget
That s*** was very forgettable
I used to defend this album too
Kenny did some good moves that year

Kenny did a whole EP with RocNation's artist from .the DMV, Q Da Fool.
Whole s*** knocks. Wild slept on.

It wasn't terrible, but it could have been a lot better. They said they finished it just hours before release.
I think it didn't do as well as expected cuz 1 fans didn't really want it and 2 it really wasn't that great.
Edit: I think they were going for the black wealth narrative, but something about it felt off. Like they didn't do it quite right.

It felt like they have no chemistry, hilarious because they’re husband and wife
Also it felt forced already the way they capitalized on the cheating, Lemonade and 4:44 felt personal and clever and had good musical direction, and EIL didn’t
Top 3 year from last decade.

!!!
I think they followed the media's narrative and all the rumours going on and used it to their advantage, but it all went flat in the end
2013: elevator incident with Solange
2013/14: Bey uses it in her lyrics (pr stunt basically)
around this time Jay Z cheating rumors started
2016: Lemonade exposes Jay (let's assume he actually did cheat, it would be almost evil for them to capitalize off something like that)
2017: 4:44 apology to Bey
at this point we've gotten all we wanted, let's move on
2018: EIL and OTRII - here they go cramming it down our throats
I think it didn't do well cuz people didn't want it. People were tired of them two doing collabs and everything being about each other and their marriage so when the album came out, people didn't want it despite a lot of the American shows doing very well.

this too
it felt forced, like they were trying to have some big moment. I think it did less than 10k in the UK first week even tho the tour was at the same time. Weren't there 50-60k at that concert tho?
I think people just didn't want it. They capitalized off it for too long and buy the time the album came out, it was too late

I’m a Hov stan and I only listened to that album once. I loved Lemonade and 4:44 but I agree with what everyone said about this being forced. BLACK EFFECT is great track though.
remember when J Cole claimed he dropped album of the year?
His best album imo.
Album of the year?
I can see the argument for it.
What was better then it? Scorpion? Ye? TC5? Astroworld?

I'm in the Hive and after listening to it once, I never listened to it again, in full at least. BOSS was my fave off the album. They should have released one or 2 more singles. Apeshit didn't age well even tho the mv was amazing
Too funny, was thinking about this exact thing on a road trip yesterday op. 2018 really was something special
Facts. 2018 slapped hard. Veteran, Some Rap Songs, Ye, Daytona, Iridiscence, Astroworld, Kids See Ghost...and thats just off the top of my head
