So you’re telling me a 32 year old rapper doesn’t actually like rap because he likes other music? Lmao

That’s what I’m telling you dumbass

    Like imagining one guy listing:

    1. Nas
    2. Raekwon
    3. Outkast
    4. Biggie
    5. Wayne

    And another guy going:

    1. Raekwon
    2. Wayne
    3. Biggie
    4. Nas
    5. Outkast

And both of them clap for each other and pat each other on the back afterwards for having such good taste

They seem like nice dudes but this made me immediately think of the NFR Podcast

Tyler’s never been a hip hop head

Mf used to listen to white indie s***. Probably still does

He’s always been a token boy that just so happened to know how the rap as well.

Simultaneously if it wasn’t for RYM or letterboxd, most people wouldn’t expand their taste beyond the newest spider verse movie or Drake

Those people are infinitely less annoying than drake Stans and this site is living proof

I agree with both @glassrainbow and you, this really isn't black and white as some might try to portray it as. It's definitely true that sites and ppl like letterboxd, rym, aoty, p4k, fandango, reddit and twitter help people curate their taste beyond liking the same derivative s***, but it can also lead to you to become a sheep and liking the same movies and music, forcing yourself to like the same stuff to fit in.

At the risk of sounding pretentious here, that Drake example is a great shout. I think his last feature w/ J Hus is completely garbage, and yet people here who don't really explore much will eat it up since Drake knows that the fans want an afrobeat summer hit

I do think it’s human nature to align with what others think based on a rule of authority or communal alignment but ultimately I do think LB, RYM, p4k, sites like that to tend to explore outside and are more open to praising newer artists rather d***riding the same things they’ve always given higher scores to

Whereas the drake Stans here rarely venture outside their fav music unless it’s something drake himself as cosigned

we need to genocide people who use rym, reddit, and watch fantano

like that specific type of person who has an anime/loli avi and is probably white + types in all lowercases

    I use the first two

Although less now, but I don't rate music, just to explore for new s*** every once in a while, and only use reddit for sports news really

Yeah exactly. It's human nature to find a subgroup and latch onto it. Some people, like myself, are FOMO, but I'm also incredibly lazy so I rarely check out the biggest hit show for each year (Succession in 2023 or Squid Game in 2021) unless pressured. It's the same for music. Idc about the new BCNR or Black midi or whatever s*** indie circles prop up nowadays because I don't enjoy that type of stuff.

As for Drake, his fans are like a certain strain of Kanye fans before he went crazy, people would only listen to Kanye-approved/associated artists, and artists that he had beef w/ like Cudi or Drake would get s*** on at any given moment.

It's not like I'm hating, I've been listening to Drake since TML dropped when I was hella young and downloaded it on itunes. I still consider him one of the greatest, but I'm also a realist too, if someone drops a trash song I'm not gonna force myself to like it.
