In no way in hell a us punk band can be the goat. The UK scene runs circles on the best act from the US

What British bands would you put above the American bands people have posted so far? Don’t just say all of them, haha; who specifically popped into your head?

Clash are cool. If we don’t count proto- and post- punk bands they might be my favourite

    Wire, S***Pistols, The Clash

Punk is such a broad term though, so many sub genres including stooges which are more proto-punk

If you’re including all subs then it’s UK bands for sure imo. US does have some of the goat punk bands/artists though. Love Patti.

Wire are my favorite of those three. The Fall, Swell Maps, the Country Teasers and Rudimentary Peni are probably my favorite UK punk bands.

    Rudimentary Peni

You know your stuff, Death Church is brilliant.

Never heard of Swell Maps, gonna give them a listen.

Only recently listened to Solid Gold. Never realized Big Black kind of ripped off “What We All Want” for “Kerosene”.

In ‘A Trip to Marineville’ is one of my favorite albums period (love how it gets progressively weirder song by song) but In ‘Jane from Occupied Europe’ and International Rescue are good, too.

Crass, Conflict, Subhumans, the Mob, UK Subs, Sham 69, the Exploited, Flux of the Pink Indians, the Damned, S***Pistols... etc.

    Just off the bat

That’s kind of it as far as Swell Maps. Definitely check out the Country Teasers and the Yummy Fur, if you haven’t; 90’s foul-mouthed Scottish post-punk (the Teasers’ singer/songwriter is British, though). If you like Peni you’ll probably like Flux of Pink Indians, if you haven’t heard them. Bogshed are a pretty obscure band; I’ve only heard Let Them Eat Bogshed and Step on It but I like both albums. Got into them through mclusky, who are probably my favorite 00’s UK band.

Black Flag and Circle Jerks>> for me. Bad Brains are great tho.
