This was the peak of that era lowkey
Goat comedy
Last good, just pure comedy movie that I can remember is Superbad. Definitely forgetting one that has came out since but most movies now are just dramas that also have good humor intertwined
No such thing as a genre dying. They lose their position on mainstream box office marquees. There are still plenty of great comedies being made. Just because they aren't plastered across the megaplexes of America doesn't mean the genre is dead
It all moved to streaming.
I’ve said it before and imma say it again, the inevitability of the theatrical business is blockbusters only
Smaller movies gonna go to streaming and we’re already seeing that
I’m going to have to invest on a home theatre then smh

Last good comedy film was Greener Grass from 2019. If u enjoy weird ass humor (think adult swim and tim & eric), this might be something for you
This literally was the end of that streak of comedy films
Edit: I mean it was the last good big comedy film
22 jump street and The Interview werent bad

And even then it's not likely
Youtube skits, cancel culture, and Netflix specials hurt the comedy film genre the most imho.
There's Youtubers and comedians on Netflix who can consistently put out funny s*** for people that's funnier than many classic comedy films.
A comedy movie is just a one time thing and, in the midst of cancel culture, a mid/high budget comedy film would really have to play it safe in terms of humor/jokes in order to be well received nowadays. And "playing it safe" sort of defeats the purpose of a comedy film.
There's also an incredible comedy film in theaters right now directed by one of America's best recent filmmakers
I think a better question is "is the R-Rated bro comedy genre dead?" and I'd probably say, yeah, mostly
Comedies still get released, they just end up on streaming now (as do most mid-budget films)
For example, most people itt are citing Judd Apatow-era films as the last great comedy films but he's still working. His next film drops on Netflix next month, but its not a "bro comedy" like Knocked Up or something:
Now are all of these streaming comedies good? That's a different question
I think Black Dynamite and Tropic Thunder were the last movies I thought were really funny.
