Went back and listened to it like a week ago, it’s a super solid project. In context of his past albums it’s easy to write this one off as meh just because it’s not as conceptual but I think there’s an argument for it being a classic

its just as conceptual as his other albums imo just not as blatant and preachy

It’s more complexed conceptually actually.
great album but didnt have same effect as gkmc and tpab. both of those are really unique from each other and damn feels like a hybrid of them.
No. I don't even get how it won the pulitzer prize.
cause the award is completely irrelevant now and they needed clicks. They even said when they were choosing a winner, they all decided they should go for a musical piece that had a "hip hop feel". Then they were like instead "hey instead of choosing one influenced by hip hop, lets just pick a hip hop album".

Damn (no pun intended). I don't even see it as a good album.
I like DNA though, and he killed it live.

you can read it here.
You can tell its pretty much the first hip hop album all the judges ever heard and they were so impressed they wanted to give it the award.

imagining the judges listening to loyalty or god is funny

I'ma check. All I know is Em obsessed with Kendrick winning it.
Joe Budden is definitely a voice in the culture but damn. y'all give him a lot sometimes lol
I think DAMN. is his second best album. it's also not difficult to pick out some records that can be seen as "commercial." there were some on GKMC too. he's one of the biggest musicians out right now, it just comes with it. and he's good at it. no problem with that.

yup, not half baked at all
I used to think Kendrick fell off after gkmc but I gave kendricks albums another chance during quarantine and I slept on damn.
Easily his second best album and fire almost thru the whole thing.
GOD is such a fire song i can’t believe I slept on it for so long
