You didn’t even quote dudes full sentence then proceeded to put words in his mouth

When you say an album is a classic, that's the criteria I'm putting it up against

To answer your question OP, the ‘bloating’ effect is a factor w/ the unnecessary tracks and he’d benefit from something more concise, but the larger issue to put ‘mildly’, is that he really has nothing to actually say and doesn’t express any ‘fresh’ perspective from either his personal experiences or anything that’s he’s truly inspired in.. nothing really activates him and it’s obvious because he doesn’t give any new revelation in the way artists reveal through their work that illustrates a specific chapter in their life.
I think if you expressed your sentiments a bit better ppl wouldn’t misunderstand u so much

Even the rollouts blending into each other

If he wanted to he could. He is big enough that if he wanted to make an album like Cole did with KOD he could. Am not sure why he doesn't. Since he does have the talent to do so.

I think CLB might have been gearing up to be that album

But in this streaming era bigger blotaed albums do better right?

So idk. I sure hope he does though

He can and should. Dark Lane Demo Tapes was one of his best releases going back to 2015.

Well said. I completely agree. I was always more so on the side of it being a production issue (repetitive/predictable beats, uninspired arrangements/instrumentation, generic sounds, boring mixes) but after reading this I realize how much his performances are growing stale as well. Not so much as in skill because the boy is obviously nice with it but the substance behind the skill has been really thin the last few cycles.

The boy need a complete overhaul

This is what pisses me off about CLB the most. He literally said this would be “more concise” and then proceeded to use a Take Care and NWTS themed trailer only to drop an album that was NOTHING like that

False advertising like a mf lol

Edit: For all the s*** I talk about not feeling CLB like that I do admit that it has its moments and Gen Z kids in my fam really seem to f*** with it heavy. Its like for those of us who lived through prime Drake, prime Ye, prime Kendrick etc this s*** ain’t good enough but to the kids this s*** is everything. Maybe we too old to feel this s***

Yeah and y'all need to stop acting like his career is over or something. I don't expect someone like Kanye or Hov to still be dropping albums as great as their best because they don't have to do that for me to appreciate what they're giving at this stage of their careers and that's part of the problem with some of you.

Anything not on par or better than his best is automatically trash to y'all but that's not true. Music quality isn't a binary function. It can be more than just great or bad.

Like I said, at this point in Drake's career, you'll never appreciate anything he does if you keep thinking he'll drop a flawless album or some album that'll blow your mind and sound unlike anything he's ever done before. Those are unrealistic expectations.

The mindset to always have when going into new music from established legends is an open mind. Don't block your head to what you believe they should be doing and appreciate whatever it is they give you for what it is. Sure, if something is wack, it's wack, but Drake doesn't make wack music. He never has. At worst, he's made music that's a step lower than his best which is still very good music but y'all never wanna see that.

My problem with conversing with you is that you kept generalizing my opinions as if my views are linked with the general public or general hater view, evident of your usage of "y'all" all the time. I feel like you are never having debate with ME and always using me as a representation of the general public when, and I say this with no ego, my views on Drake's music is a lot more detailed and nuanced then that.

First of all I've always shown appreciation of his music. Maybe it's because of the transfer from KTT to KTT2 and me having to make another account and in general being lowkey but I've been on this site for years and the majority of it has been praising Drake and his music. I was literally always known as the dude that would write whole essays on his greatness. It's just recently I haven't agreed with most of what he has been doing but the respect and appreciation is very much still there. So much so that I know he could be doing better.

I ain't saying his career is over but the respect for his music is definitely waning in some degree. Like you said he doesn't make bad music but it's still bad that he hasn't progressed much given how much music he makes and how long he has been making them and given his potential as Hov's successor. He gets more criticism because deep down everyone knows he is. I ain't going to give the same criticism for him as f***ing Rocky or Meek or Wale or Push the Tea. All great artists but they ain't the heir to the hip hop throne that Drake is or is supposed to be (by public and his own opinion).

I always go into Drake's music with an open mind. It's honestly why I didn't see the decline in quality that other people saw until recently. Again anytime I've criticized his music I always mentioned that I still enjoyed it on some level. I criticized the hell out of Laugh Now Cry Later, What's Next, and Fair Trade because I felt it just wasn't the direction I felt he should be going at this point in his career and they show he isn't progressing. I always mentioned I bumped them all the time because even though I feel that way about them I still think they are bangers. So trust me I still appreciated his music but I still see them for what they are and it's non progression.

Yeah, I mean I'm surely a broken record at this point but I really believe we recieved the original "CLB" album via LEAK2020, DLDT and SH2. There was a definite theme both sonically and lyrically and if he had ended up dropping an album like that, it would have been the concise classic (that still had huge mainstream appeal) that we've all been waiting for.

I think dude just gets into his own head and is convinced that whatever he's working on next will be better, so between the leaks and the pandemic he decided to scrap the original "CLB".

It's a damn shame. I've said this many times but there exists a perfect 10/10 album that can be made from the tracks spread across CLB, DLDT, LEAK2020 and SH2.

I feel like it's Views all over again, except that time the marketing eclipsed the album and this time the multiple delays and other projects eclipsed the album.

Dude needs to sit and wait and put together the 10/10 album we know he can deliver, imo.

Yeah man I totally agree imagine a 13-16 track album with the best tracks from DLDT, the leaks, SH2 and CLB

Would have literally been an instant classic

i’d say the problem is more related to trying to appease to every set of his fanbase instead of focusing on a particular sound, that being said idc

He 'could' make a concise album, sure.

But who's best interest would that be in?

A concise Rap / R&B / Pop album is impossible to create, and not having all of those types of records on an album would be dumb as hell.

I still think SFG was the closest you're going to get to a concise, homogeneous sounding, storytelling Drake LP (which is why it's to this day my #1) drake album)

but I don't mind how the albums of his are made now. They're enjoyable. But, it's the primary reason why all of the drake records on say, CLB would sound fantastic as standalone tracks, but are mid on an album.
