Read the thread title. He's talking bout scary movies. Nothing scary about Midsommar or even less Mother!
If you're over 5-10 years old, no movie should actually scare you lol.

If it's unexpected, it can happen.
It was good but wasn't scary. Conjuring 2 should have been the title of this thread not Hereditary

Midsommar disturbed me in its depiction of social alienation and emotional repression in American culture. The anxiety in the d*** trip scene, the murder/suicide scene, the protagonist's desperate clinging to a bad relationship. There's plenty of discomforting content.
Honestly, I'd argue a well done war movie is closer to horror than most PG-13 ghost movies put in theaters for teenagers to make out during. Too often people get hung up on iconography.
Nah
It was dark and gory but I wouldn’t say scariest of modern time a
Scariest to this day I would still say is the OG paranormal activity. That movie is evidence that no matter the budget or cast if you have a good idea it will resonate with audiences
Simple movie with a simple story but that movie haunted America for years
Great point. OG Paranormal Activity may be the last one to have such a widescale impact

yeah this s*** was just creepy as hell
why does the horror community get so pretentious when it comes to hereditary lol
like when asked about scarier horror films of the decade pick something better than f***ing insidious plenty of great horror films in the 2010s

For some reason KTT hates on Ari Aster but Midsommar is a f***ing classic in my book. Imo it's flawless and one of my fav films of the decade

Im personally not the type to get scared over films but this is a dumb take

It's an appropriate response to "that's not even scary" which is a much worse take.

Oh you mean you were saying it sarcastically?

I was using it tauntingly. I don't find myself afraid of movies though. I love the horror genre for other reasons.

Keep hearing about Midsommer but why do I feel this movie is all style and little substance
She was turning me on in that mom outfit in I'm thinking of ending things

Idk it had plenty of substance to me if you pay attention to the characters. I thought Christian & Dani were very interesting, as a couple but moreso as indivduals. Christian was a leech and someone who's only interest he looked out for was his own at all times and it showed through every little moment in the film. Dani was the perfect example of someone who would be the perfect prey for a cult like the one we see in Midsommar. A very scary trauma in the beginning of the film that she never dealt with, a boyfriend who gaslights her constantly and doesn't care about her, and no actual friends from what we know. I felt sorry for her all the time, and even in the end when she completely lost her mind, you still kinda feel as if this is a happy ending for her, even though it clearly isn't. Also some very beautiful shots at the ending with the screaming folk and her laughing in such a sinister way
Yes it was very stylistic too, but i don't get how that is a bad thing. It's not like Ari Aster ONLY was focusing on making it look good visually. Although he does really gets extra point for making a film like this fully in daylight. That was really cool to me
