I think the answer is yes.

I hate how he just quit being a movie director because of his bad experience with Belly. I truly believe Hype would’ve made one really great movie using his style and it would’ve probably been something we’ve never seen before in cinema.

He's good, not the biggest fan overall. The thing I love about Hype is his style is purely geared towards interesting music videos and he really pushed the form.

Spike's stuff is awesome but it's more of a pastiche of films and television placed in the context of a music video, whereas what Hype has done could only be utilized in the music video format. I guess the major exception to this for Spike would be the Fatboy slim music video, but there's something about his work that just sort of bugs me. He makes good films, music videos, and commercials, I'm not saying he doesn't, I just don't think of him as a Great Music Video Director.
