Man,I’m not gonna lie to you, when I first saw that Gotham City video,I always imagined a black Batman movie with Hype Williams directing. I’m talking an actual licensed Batman movie about a black Batman fighting crime in the ghetto.
Imagine the aesthetics of that video used on the big screen except with a $100 mill budget, would’ve been insane. The premise would’ve also been something totally new for superhero movies.
This would be amazing
In the comics they actually have Lucius Fox (Morgan Freeman from the Bale movies) son become Batman so that s*** could really happen
It's wild to me we've only had Blade and Black Panther as real black superhero movies that were taken serious

I would want Hype to come up with a totally new premise for Batman but have someone else write the movie. An actual urban Batman who exclusively fights crime for the impoverished. Like that last scene of the video where Kelly is riding off in the Batmobile with all the black kids and people in the hood staring just had me thinking.
He's a GOAT director who's happened to make some good music videos.
My initial post was obviously too much of a blanket statement but I still can't think of another director outside of Hype who's actually made a career out of pushing the format of music videos instead of just dabbling in them.
Fincher’s career started in music videos, he still makes them occasionally but that’s what got him in the film making game to begin with. But I get your point

For sure, he started with music videos and commercials.
Again, I'm definitely being a little too black and white, but music videos are definitely not on the same level as films or even television, so the field is mostly filled with very sub par directors. Hype just happened to have a style that opened up the possibilities, but no one has really taken that torch and ran with it imo.
But still, if I'm looking at his nine inch nails videos vs hype's busta rhymes or Missy, it's just not even close.
They can't be famous because most people probably have no idea who tf they ever are
he made belly, so yea he automatically is goat tier.
Cult classic, but from a directors pov it has some flaws
