In my life I don't even know why but I was and probably am jealous of people who really enjoy jazz and classical music as much as I enjoy Ye and Metallica.
It's probably because of the stereotype that these kinds of music make you smarter, change the way you think unlike simpler pop music or rock music which usually is agressive, So I tried to reach this next stage of existence but I feel like I'm not really getting it.
So have you ever tried to change your music taste towards these genres, was it successful? Does it really work as advertised?
none of those correlations you mentioned are true. any study that claims they are has some kinda sampling bias
Meh once in a while I bump some Jazz and progressive rock but I need to be in the mood for it. Most of the times I constantly play my usual hip hop artists
yes just keep listening and learning more about it
but dont feel bad if ultimately you arent able to get into a certain style. maybe a few years down the line it'll click
To be fair Jazz and Classical are the nerdier genres lol, still doesn't stop me from enjoying some good old Brad Mehldau
Try trip-hop it's pretty sophisticated yet not as inaccessible and has high replay

Yes some music is inherently more challenging to engage with and lends itself to a more sophisticated ear but most people that would push this idea are coming from a place of classism, racism, pretentiousness in general. Sophisticated =\= better

u gotta build up ur knowledge base of those genres to appreciate them more. so if you listen to more music of that kind you'll still, at least for a while, not really appreciate it from any perspective other than "i like this" or "i don't like this"
but eventually after you grasp an idea of what the genres (more specifically, subgenres) r trying to do on the whole, you'll appreciate the differences between certain composers or artists more
it's easier for hip hop/pop cus if u listen to mainstream stuff ur already engrossed in the idea of what that music is supposed to be like; u have expectations, and therefore you either appreciate or don't appreciate the differences certain artists bring as they attempt the genres
so if u have any friends who listen to that s*** ask em for some history or ask em why they like certain s*** over others n try to build ur perspective of genres ur trying to get into

Yeah, the funny thing is, sadly I don't have any people who regularly listen to these types of music, but I follow two music teachers on IG and they are less pretentious and biased about other kinds of music.
I don't know maybe it's the facade that they keep up to seem nice, but I geniunely feel that if I played them some cool pop song or even rap they would dig it and not reject it just because of some imaginery hierarchy of genres,
Thank you for the advice in the other comment, I'll find out more about composers that I'm interested in. I haven't thought about that problem from the point of expectations, so it's cool that you brought it up.

Nope, lol, I'm wholeheartedly interested to know people's opinion about this topic.
If I was baiting, I would've made a top of Debussy preludes etc.
