i really like those 2 albums for jazz. a bunch of people are going to tell you to listen to miles davis and coltrane but to be honest i never really liked them. just follow your ear and listen to what sounds good to you regardless. i really like debussy for classical music and if you wanna start with a symphony try debussy's prellude to the afternoon of a faun.

Thank you, I already know about Debussy and actually was listening to preludes. Really like the spanish one.

In my life I don't even know why but I was and probably am jealous of people who really enjoy jazz and classical music as much as I enjoy Ye and Metallica.
It's probably because of the stereotype that these kinds of music make you smarter, change the way you think unlike simpler pop music or rock music which usually is agressive, So I tried to reach this next stage of existence but I feel like I'm not really getting it.
So have you ever tried to change your music taste towards these genres, was it successful? Does it really work as advertised?
funny you say this OP cause I am the reverse of that, and now I sort of have a healthy balance of a lot of genres, and musical styles that I listen to
First, its probably good to get into jazz or classical and find the most accessible stuff you can
Man f*** that classical s***. Go play some ambient and IDM music. That’s the cool nerd s***

if u like debussy try ravel & saint-saëns
they all french composers from around the same time. stylistically similar
Yeah, the funny thing is, sadly I don't have any people who regularly listen to these types of music, but I follow two music teachers on IG and they are less pretentious and biased about other kinds of music.
I don't know maybe it's the facade that they keep up to seem nice, but I geniunely feel that if I played them some cool pop song or even rap they would dig it and not reject it just because of some imaginery hierarchy of genres,
Thank you for the advice in the other comment, I'll find out more about composers that I'm interested in. I haven't thought about that problem from the point of expectations, so it's cool that you brought it up.
Those are just real music heads that aren’t insecure about their taste fam
I listen to a f*** load of jazz, weird ambient music, downtempo, genres that a lot of this site would probably cook me for but I love polo g, baby, drake, lucki, mavi, whatever
People that gate keep elevated genres are dead just insecure about not having else other than their curated taste going on so they gotta defend it like a baby bird egg or som lol
best way to branch out is to try to find out who your favorite artists' favorite artists are. its good to try to be open-minded and try new things, but ive found its hard to dive right into a new genre. its much easier to use what you already listen to as a gateway into something deeper.
i feel like a pretty common way that people start getting into those types of genres these days is by checking out the samples of songs they like
you could also ask your parents/family. my pops makes beats and when i started cooking he taught me about the diff eras of soul and jazz music and such. making beats in general you get a pretty good understanding of every genre tbh
or just ask the internet. everything's on the internet
