As an Ex Ye stan, I can say maybe.
Ye's first 5 albums are legendary & genre bending.
But he has blemishes in the later half of his discog.
K.Dot has (not only classic albums) but not one bad album in his catalog.
So you can make the argument.
With that said, Kanye may have the worst drop off (as an artist) in music history.
No f***ing chance. Worst drop off?
Over Eminem?
I don't hate this take, on a Kanye fan website you'll get more pushback than you should. But Kendrick doesn't have an album worse than Kanye's last few. And tbh I put GKMC and TPAB over any Kanye album
It's just hard to deny every album from Graduation to Pablo. Kendrick doesn't have that many great projects yet. Kanye has the quantity and quality, Kendrick just has the quality
IMO it means something in the sense that influence as inspiration > inspiration as emulation
But even in that post, you illuminated an issue with valuing influence - who do you attribute the influence to? Because Juice and these new kids were influenced by Future and Thug, who themselves were influenced by 808s. So do you say Kanye is influential, or Thug and Future?
Who do you think deserves the Rap Throne?
Who is the greatest rapper of all time?
You keep accusing people of defending Kendrick in here of being white suburbans but those "kids tryna become musicians" are exactly who those white suburbans fw because they're the mainstream Uzi, Juice, Yeat, Summrs etc
Searching Sylvan by Quest was heavily inspired by GKMC. Saba, JID. Topaz Jones (who you probably never heard of). That's the type of music where Kendrick's influence is felt
Saba is influenced by Chicago rap, not Kendrick lmao. His influences go more towards Midwest musicians like Common, Lupe Fiasco, Bone Thugs, and Kanye
It’s so funny how much you act knowledgeable on rap yet can’t even get your facts right about the artists you think I’ve probably never heard of.
JID has never named Kendrick as an influence either. He’s influenced by New York hip hop, D’angelo, Little Dragon and Wu Tang. Topaz is moreso influenced by Gambino and Anderson Paak
The rappers you name btw are the types who would appear at a Pitchfork music festival. They’re literally for white suburban kids on Reddit and RYM
Who do you think deserves the Rap Throne?
I think of it like Greek Mythology, there are multiple gods that have different domains
Imo Kanyes first 6 albums alone skew it in his favor. Theres an argument to be made post-Yeezus though fs
No f***ing chance. Worst drop off?
Over Eminem?
Never really like Em to begin with, but (Imo) I'd have to say yes.
Being consistently great throughout the 2000's dropping 4 classics back to back to back to back, then dropping the album of the decade for the 2010's in "MBDTF".
Then all of a sudden, dude just hit a brick wall.
Does he still have his moments of genius?
Yeah, but he's carried by production & features nowadays.
Around 2015-16 I assumed Kendrick would eventually lap Kanye’s discography, but for me it hasn’t happened yet and so I don’t think it will. The run from Dropout to Yeezus (some would say up to Pablo) remains unbeaten IMO.
Yeah the guy that made Mr. Morale is f***ing with the guy that made CD, LR, Graduation, 808’s, MBDTF, YEEZUS, and TLOP back 2 back 😭😭
Indeed he is

Yeah glad we agree

Lol so is lil Wayne an ego maniac for saying he’s the best rapper of all time?
I bet Kendrick himself would say his music isn’t as good as prime Kanye. Or Snoop. Or Eazy.
You just using that argument for when it suits your agenda but you don’t actually believe it
Snoop? Eazy E? Get real bro. Not even you believe that those guys are better than Kendrick, with no disrespect at all to those legends
I disagree pretty strongly, but it’s close enough that it’s not really an offensive take; at least not to me

Mfs act like comparing two legendary generational artists is like heresy

I'm crine, did you go to Wikipedia to look up these artists' influences?
And Buggin sounds like it could be a Kendrick track, Topaz has explicitly mentioned how inspired he was by TPAB. You're reaching with Anderson Paak

Lmao those get written because of what they’ve said in interviews. I’ve seen em speak on their influences and I literally am from Chicago so Saba’s influences are plain as day to me. He’s the last f***in thing from Kendrick and it’s hilarious how you tried to sneak him in there. I especially get touchy when y’all try to namedrop Chicago rappers and claim they influenced by artists outside the scene
There’s nothing actually remotely discernible about Kendrick’s style to his influences. So when these guys name Jay Z, Nas, Wu Tang, Eminem, or whoever as influences it’s because these guys have already done the music and rap styles that Kendrick has touched on. Kendrick isn’t an innovator like Future.
And Topaz is a lot more funk/r&b than anything on TPAB. Paak and Bino are much more similar musically
Snoop? Eazy E? Get real bro. Not even you believe that those guys are better than Kendrick, with no disrespect at all to those legends
I don’t believe they are. I’m making fun of the idiot who told me that our opinions are irrelevant compared to what the artists think
