@Backlava I can tell by who you picked what you consider goat status, I understand that. There's room for every film and film style, not just films with deep meanings and/or arthouse films. Linklater has perfected capturing the beauty of being human multiple times through multiple decades, has made experimental films that were ahead of their time and has made some of the most enjoyable films I've ever seen
for that he more than deserves to be placed on the goat list

I agree with that, but he has a ton of blockbuster films with little meaning. The Martian? Black Hawk Down? Cmon man

I think you get what I'm digging out, there's value in that. Don't write anyone off for that

  • neu

Yeah Bro he is a master I wanted to put Fellini there but He litteraly Died for Salo , Theorem is Incredible , Matthew Gospe ect Antonioni is another Master man Damn

LINKLATER is Great but not in the Goat conversation my favorite movie of him is a Scanner Darkly the form and the idea of making a movie like that was Genius and of course the Plot but still he is too fresh we need to give it time

I can respect that, scanner darkly is great.

I also hold the before trilogy, dazed and confused, slacker, and boyhood in high regard. To each their own though

Fam name me one Director who gave you a movie as Important as Blade Runner and Alien , he could have retired after that.

Same as the Wachowskis With the Matrix

THE MATRIX is arguably Top 10 movie of all time definitely Greatest movie of the 21st century with how the world is going Right Now

Spielberg movies Besides his dramas are tok Shallow

    What makes them shallow?

Minority Report is a blockbuster and it features what I consider one of Cruise’s best performances. The scene where he’s watching footage of his dead son is beautiful and heart wrenching.

Spielberg actually adds emotion using cinematic visual language, something most directors just don’t understand.

Take AI for example. The huge tracking shot in that film follows a robotic teddy bear around a futuristic carnival. That’s a type of visual risk most people wouldn’t even think of let alone commit to, but the way he structures the movie is so brilliant that the shot is earned, it works, and it adds a texture to the movie that continues to haunt it through its second half.
