If you only have a PS5 definitely get the Physical, you never know. Or if you’re never buying disc. I don’t ever buy physical disc but I remember my cousin surprised me with RDR2 for my birthday when it came out and it was physical obviously. If I had digital I’d be in shambles.

Also most discounts are on physical discs.

Only reason to get the disc drive is if you have a collection of PS4 games laying around.

I find it funny that people advocate for limiting themselves and locking themselves to a digital store. We’re moving towards a world where we don’t own a single thing and can have everything taken away from you at the click of a button and people are advocating for this

Anyways, if discs had all the requirements to play games I could see the value in having discs, but this is just not the case and hasn't been for almost 10 years

This is a PlayStation thread but if this was Xbox my points would stand even more because of backwards compatibility with original Xbox and 360 discs

You can prefer to not use discs and use digital instead but saying it’s better than having a disc drive on your machine is just plain wrong

Xbox games were never digital, but if you've been using the same xbox account since 360 all the games you bought digitally are still linked to your account.

Understand that nintendo is very anti-consumer with their practices

But Sony and Microsoft will stick to the standard of keeping all digital purchases on your account. That definitely won't be changing in the future.

Of course having a disc drive is better than no disc drive.

But A LOT of people don't want to have to deal with carrying their physical media.

Digital accounts are at the mercy of an insanely complex network structure that could fail or cause issues at any time. Physical games today are half digital anyway like you said but not having disc authentication and instead having network authentication puts you at the mercy of Sony and their infrastructure (known to not be that good) even more

At least we have 2FA now and better authentication services.

Physical is objectively better because you have more options with it even if you don't utilize those options, plain & simple.

Digital is still fine tho & serves a purpose.

Basically, both are good, but which one is great personally comes down to preference & in the moment impulse/situation.

I would say the convenience of having a game on your console and not having to switch disc out is also a pro. Also if you game share digital is definitely the way to go.
