People take the Bible to literal. The s*** is powerful of course evil people are going to use it to manipulate others for power.

just like everything else in the universe

imperfect people will find ways to pervert everything

  • idgi are you saying society wasnt miserable and angry back when people were forced to be religious

ever heard of puritans? witch trails? crusades?

I think there is something to be said for those who live a morally upright life without any belief that a reward will be gifted to them post mortem.

Not on some "I'm better than you" s*** just like...that's admirable.

Anyway I think if there are gods or a god that he'll recognize those who lived a good life and welcome them based on their virtue and not on whether they prayed or asked for forgiveness. And if there are no gods or god it's the right thing to do to be a morally upright person. And if there are gods or a god but they refuse to allow morally upright non-believers into heaven then to be honest I don't want to get in cuz that's some petty s***.

Shoutout everyone itt who realizes it's down to record income inequality and s*** like that tho.

I do bible studies and truth of the matter is
You don't need religion to be a good person that's a fact.

The bible will tell you otherwise though

In Matthew 8:22 Jesus said, “Follow Me, and let the spiritually dead bury their own dead.”, its a good read

That's dope man glad you agree with me.

The Bible has been re written a bunch of times right and there's multiple authors?

There's bound to be conflicting idealogies within it.

The Bible is a good book with a ton of moral lessons but I don't think its meant to be taken literal. Probably like any other book take what you need from it.

Most religions in general are in out groups that's why the s*** is kinda wack to me. They have a us and them mentality. I personally don't give a f*** what they think about me. It's about them not me. Probably makes them feel good or something.

Many of the country's most spiteful and ignorant voices are those of "devout" Christians and Jews.

That’s something I touched on in op.

Overly religious people are horrible, those who use religion to pawn people are horrible, and those who believe in nothing are horrible too.

The question is how can we find a middle ground and get people to live by a moral code and care about others and treat everyone truly equally?

    Moral education. Education in general.

Shoutout bush for cutting education funding.

I don't think op is even saying you should be religious. Just that maybe we should believe in God..and honestly I don't feel like I even need to be religious to have a relationship with "God"

Exactly, I think a lot of people who don’t believe in anything live their life exactly like that.

Whether it be spirituality, an established religion or just an agnostic belief in god. It’s about whether we can finally find people who can live by a moral code to help others and be selfless and not driven by the dollar. I think religion can be a way to help find people like this, if used correctly

It’s incredibly hard to not be driven by the dollar in American society. I wish I wasn’t but I know on some capacity I am going to continue to be in this rat race for some time.

Yes, but that all comes down to why is American society so materialistic? Why is it so expensive to live? The people at the top are people who do not give a s*** about anything but money and their actions effect everyone else

  • dat guy

personally where I was born, white christians from europe literally killed and raped the whole population and made them convert, now we 90% christians, there was no capitalistic system before that.

Yeah, but that is a case of people using religion to justify atrocities and as a form to murder and force people to conform

These are not the kind of people I am talking about

No but it creates a divide between smart people and religious people

  • Jul 21, 2020

"God is dead. God remains dead. And we have killed him. How shall we comfort ourselves, the murderers of all murderers? What was holiest and mightiest of all that the world has yet owned has bled to death under our knives: who will wipe this blood off us? What water is there for us to clean ourselves? What festivals of atonement, what sacred games shall we have to invent? Is not the greatness of this deed too great for us? Must we ourselves not become gods simply to appear worthy of it?"

because i don't believe in god, i know that this is potentially my only chance in life.

for this reason, i try hard to be a kind man to people i know and to those i don't.

i try hard to be compassionate toward all life.

    i know no god

  • Jul 21, 2020

No lol. If anything getting away from religion often makes people nicer towards others.

  • Jul 21, 2020

i think that a self righteous man who believes in his god and is not afraid to die is one of the most dangerous combos
