It’s crazy how 21 and 1989 are the only eras (album+singles) since Confessions to come close to it commercially
Like what are Bruno’s deep cutS?
Moonshine a great song
do people listen to bruno mars albums?
UJ and 24K are great
I don’t see how you can hear confessions or thriller or sign o the times and say The Weeknd is on the same level.
At the end of the day being on top for like half a decade and only THEN coming out with Blinding Lights and doing the Super Bowl is objectively legendary material. People who can’t get over Trilogy can’t admit this
Opposite if anything. Music is amazing but he doesn’t have superstar level stage presence when thinking about the legends from yesteryear.
Yea exactly
He’s improving but he doesn’t have that natural performer gene
It’s crazy how 21 and 1989 are the only eras (album+singles) since Confessions to come close to it commercially
katy perry had 5 number 1 singles off 1 album, put some respect on katy perrys name
Bruno has some great hits but I don’t think he has a truly great body of work
You wouldn't be comparing him if you didn't know deep down that they're basically the same safe and generic pop stars, take Justin Beiber for example I don't even like him but that's a legend

I said “album+singles”
why can't y'all like multiple artists? why you gotta pin each one against another
I don’t see how you can hear confessions or thriller or sign o the times and say The Weeknd is on the same level.
It’s all about what music you grow up with
Kanye probably the only one who can compare to MJ when it comes to overall persona. He and MJ are just facisnating people to watch and listen to. Extremely loved, hated and influential. A level of unique 98% of artists don't have. Pretty much everyone else listed doesn't have that quality. Like Weeknd as a person doesn't interest me that much, his music does. Same as Bruno.

human nature, tribalism.
Yes man IMO Bruno is a great writer but he’s never done anything forward moving musically in his career. He’s great at channeling the past but I’ve never really heard anything from Bruno that sounded new or fresh. Whereas Abel has showcased he can dip into a past bag and push the genre forward at the same time, I think that’s an extremely important thing to keep in mind.
Chris’ early work is also fantastic I’m not disputing that, probably better musically than Abel’s middle section of his discog. But past Royalty Chris’ music just never hit the same for me. The tapes, Kiss Land, and AH are better than most of what those two have put out IMO.
Bruno's early work wasn't heavily doing music from the past
Bruno was a pop staple by writing pop hits + performing his ass off + beige a multi instrumentalist before he started doing old styles in a very flagrant way
push the genre forward at the same time, I think that’s an extremely important thing to keep in mind.
How has the weeknd pushed the genre forward?
Weeknd isn't that great of a performer but he has some great songs, I'd say both are overrated for only being around a decade in music
Bruno is more like Michael and The Weeknd is more like prince
And no I’m not saying that either are on the level of their predecessors, but Bruno is better at the dancing singing whereas The Weeknd in my opinion cares more about doing something with the music
However Michael made better music than Bruno and prince had a lot more talent than The Weeknd
Imagine describing The Weeknd as an amazing performer but mediocre music
Didn’t say his music was mediocre. It’s just not groundbreaking.
I don’t see how you can hear confessions or thriller or sign o the times and say The Weeknd is on the same level.
I mean he’s obviously not on MJ or Prince tier at all
I don’t think he has any era near confessions but to be fair Usher has a relatively weak discography if you exclude that
You wouldn't be comparing him if you didn't know deep down that they're basically the same safe and generic pop stars, take Justin Beiber for example I don't even like him but that's a legend
Dude you’re a bozo who consistently hates on The Weeknd whilst giving no real criticism. The Weeknd is far from a “generic pop star” that’s some hater s***
Bruno has some great hits but I don’t think he has a truly great body of work
This exactly. None of his albums really say or do anything
Didn’t say his music was mediocre. It’s just not groundbreaking.
Trilogy was pretty groundbreaking idk how you can look at the influence of that project and not admit that
