the moment you bite the 80's sound you lose your ballots to go as a legend, I love his old s***, but I gotta be neutral this time
I disagree that he’s biting it
Maybe Starboy at times - but not the most successful songs from that album
Sure he’s influenced but none of his songs could really pass in that era at all they’re notably different
Bruno on the other hand
that’s missing the point
I’m not saying they’re comparable
I’m saying they’re the closest two which they blatantly are
Their careers are very similar to MJ and Prince just at a noticeably lower level
Y’all are allowed to draw comparisons between artists like MJ and Prince without saying an artist is on that tier at all
Bruno is closest to mj in entertainment ... And we concluded yesterday that the weeknd isn't on Bruno's level as a an entertainer...
The weeknd isn't on Chris Brown/usher level either...
Tbh. This post hit. He really isn’t on that level is he.
He's not but I was over here hyping him up because of how much I love his music, but every time I saw him perform he fumbled :/ Dude doesn't have the star presence, chops or je ne sais quoi that makes him standout in the pantheon of greats.

On a performance level yes he’s nowhere near those two.
Musically he blows them both out of the water
hes got a point
80s nostalgia is woat
Yes but it doesn’t shape his entire discography, and certainly not as much as a lot of people seem to think so
that’s missing the point

prince and michael were on a different level, not even worth comparing. prince had a movie open at number 1 in the box office. michael is michael. its a dumb comparison

I think Bruno is closer in performance but further away musically and commercial performance wise
Chris Brown was genuinely close but never lived up to the potential

I don’t agree with this. You have to consider the aesthetic climate we are in. He wasn’t biting the style, he was channeling it and was in keeping with the whole 80s revisionism vibe that is so trendy these past years. It was a stylistic choice that was executed brilliantly well. That’s was the concept.
After Hours was an excellent album.
you ask any golf fan to name legends they’ll give you loads of names, not just tiger woods. Same with nba fans and Jordan. Why are we confining if someone’s a musical legend if they are bigger than MJ? No one is, that’s redundant. We’re allowed more than 1 legend
he’s not comparable to prince or MJ but he has like 5 #1s and possibly the biggest song ever as well as a classic album/mixtape
So yea definitely
NGL probably because we are in a pandemic but "blinding lights" really doesnt feel like "possibly the biggest song ever"
yet again i stay indoors all day and s*** post on ktt so wtf do i know

yea I get that but on almost every data point it’s at that level as crazy as it seems

Numbers dont lie.
But i read those numbers and im like this song was really that big?
Y’all who are saying no
Who are the current active artists who are legends to you

I just take Blinding Lights as an example for my point
I'm really waiting for an artist to come up that's been inspired by Abel, like Travis Scott got inspired by Cudi or Ye, when that happens I will consider him a legend
btw help me when I try to post a thread it says please wait a few seconds, but it's been like this a couple days

Teal you f***ing real for giving me this phrase “ je ne sais quoi” - I been trying to think of a way to encapsulate that concept for so long. I been using ethereal for years but this is better.

You’re waiting for an artist to come up that’s inspired by Abel?????? Huh?????
He is no where near Prince or MJ lmao stop
He is not at the moment, but could we honestly compare Michael when he released Off the wall to his influencer Bobby? Given Abel's discography and the consistency of it, when it's all said and done, I predict he will be a contender
I cannot judge him during his run, need to see when the dust settles, comparison is skewed
Ktt's "new thing can never be better than old thing" attitude
Where did anyone ever say that lmao
You Weeknd stans just constantly make the stupidest f***ing comparisons and then deflect with Red Herrings like this
