The comparison to a white Brit making dancehall is wild. The white Brit did not grow up speaking Patois.

    Rosalia grew up speaking Spanish.

ik he’s not a Brit but you reminded me of this lmao

Ik shes been in the studio with Mike Dean but that was a while back. All Ik is that her recent output to crossover to the English-speaking market is not so good lol

She’s really struggling in North America yeah. It’s interesting to think about how Latino artists like Bad Bunny, Ozuna, and J Balvin are having better success in the states than she is. Maybe Americans are more familiar with their style than hers? 🤔

Reggaeton conquered Spain, what did you expect? It's like US rap influencing Latin America.

If you think Yankee, Don Omar and them was big in the US, imagine in Spanish speaking countries.

And to think this guy is the son of Julio

Spanish has accents/dialects/slang spawning across the globe
ask Latinos on this site... I'm pretty sure they could tell apart a Colombian from a Argentinian from a Spaniard (for example)

Even Spain itself has two recognized languages (catalan and Spanish)

Are you implying that European Spanish is the standard for a whole continent (South America)?

The success of Bad Bunny is astounding. I’m not complaining because as a Puerto Rican myself I’m extremely proud to see he’s made it this big. He’s torn down this whole machismo barrier that reeks in the Latino culture and embraces his weirdness I love it so much

The largest one in American culture has been the success of hip-hop. It went from niche-urban centric music to outselling pop and rock as the most lucrative genre.

We’re going to have to agree to disagree on the ethics-capitalism incomparability thing lol

Hip hop isn't owned by the people the culture came from... I'm not even gonna debate you on how that's literally not progress.

In business no one cares about your intentions of sharing cultures, what's profitable gets pushed to the top.

You mention rock music leaving out how dirty black rock musicians were done so I'm not even gonna bring up how dirty black rappers are being done (till this day) at awards shows, in the media (hey fox news), and popular opinion ("rap is crap" , "they're just mumbling" , "eminem is the best rapper of all-time", "they don't use instruments they're not artists", "rap is not music they just talk lol" yadayadayada)

A Brit will have trouble understanding Jamaican Patois.

A South American Spanish speaker will more than likely understand European Spanish.

    There’s the difference.

Yes it is expanding her sound.

Both kind of but I'd say it's expanding her pockets first (even more her labels pockets if she's signed)

They wouldn't let her expand anything without knowing they can recoup but that's just my opinion

Twitter always mad. First, it was because she's not gipsy or from the south of Spain.

Then she won some Latin Grammys or some s*** and they got mad because she's not a latina.

People just mad all the time. You see latin artists get awards here and no one is mad. Camila got a bunch for example.

All expansion in the music industry is capitalizing unless you release a free album.

    Let's not play dumb

There are people who take risks that work out and some that don't

The artists who have a lot to lose usually play it safer whilst a SoundCloud artist might just experiment more than the average artists...

Then there are obvious cash grabs releases and tactics...

Her competition is Karol G imo, and Karol will most likely win since she's a reggaeton artist, she always making hit type of songs.

Spanish people want to support the Latin people who make they music they like - what's your issue?
