i'm all for a good 9/11 joke. they are funny when done well. but does anyone else kinda find it weird how excited people get to make fun of 9/11? to the point that we maybe kinda forget about the people who died?
i am very aware of the obvious political undertones. but it wasn't an attack on a naval base. it was an attack on innocent people. and my entire timeline yesterday was dedicated to jokes about those people dying. i'm not really admonishing people for joking around either. i'm just genuinely curious as to why the jokes have become so pervasive.
Americans just like to be edgy, has more to do with it being “taboo” than actually making fun of those who died
We are a country who’s culture is founded on violence, individualism, aggression, anti-intellectualism, apathy, and competition
This is a natural consequence of such a culture
holocaust jokes exist but most people don't like them
I think 9/11 jokes r gonna be aged out like this in 20 years time. Will be seen more as a nasty thing to joke about
I legitimately think 90 percent of zoomers think it was a hologram. Not even joking
I didn’t see any jokes yesterday but you know it is kinda crazy we joke about that situation lol. Before I never really cared about the jokes but after seeing hella educational tweets about certain individuals that died trying to save people it kinda made me feel different about the jokes in the past.

what countries were founded on peace?
It is kind of weird tbh. Norm McDonald did some good 9/11 jokes though, but it works cause he didn’t poke fun at the loss of life

what an awful name for an airline. it reminds me of that tragedy

You might be worse than them

is our culture really founded on anti-intellectualism? And how so? It’s definitely a part of it now but I thought it crept in somewhere, didn’t think it was as present in the founding, so I’m interested
Okay
And even if all cultures somehow incorporate violence into their structures, none have the intense recreational glorification of it as Americans do
Firearms are a literal pastime and our most popular sport causes CTE like moths to a lamp

nah we definitely used to be an intellectual country. then for whatever reason people started being proud of their ignorance

What was the timeline?

I mean we hold some of the most renowned institutions in the world that people all over come to

Yeah that’s what I’m thinking. American ignorance has definitely excised for a while too but even in the 2000s imo, there was a lot more intellectualism going on. I’m seeing a drastic recent decline happening in that regard
But really it probably started in the 80s with corporations taking over more

why go to Harvard when you can just sell weed and pills for the rest of your life? or become a mechanic?
