Younger Gen has no patriotism in their hearts,
    no love for America.

They grew up watching mfs storming the capital and riots across the land.

its interesting when people make 9/11 jokes but "other" jokes about deaths is a NO NO.

    9/11- 2,996 victims

War on Terror- 4.5 Million deaths, 38 million displaced

RIP to the victims but this is essentially like the Romans or the Nazis having an empire and one of their colonies manages to burn down a town in the central part of their empire

I don’t think many people make war on terror jokes?

I find it more important to focus on why 9/11 happened as in the United States really f***ing up the middle east as a whole for so long (plus gen x and previous gens severe hatred/xenophobia of anything from the middle east) - as well as Bush's piss poor reaction both with the US (patriot act) and the invasions, sometimes bleeding into Obama's continuation of the response as well (drone strike memes)

To the younger crowd it's all a f***ed up and weird joke in general, primarily making fun of the attitudes of prior generations with all of it.

It's the image of the imperialism of the United States these memes are about. Targeting innocent deaths is done in comparative means to the innocent and/or dehumanized deaths in the middle east.

    That wasn’t the point

Americans make have sympathy (understandably so) over 9/11 but fail to recognize how American imperialism was what led to such s tragedy in the first place.

Not to mention the justification this was used to further more destruction to West Asia through civil wars, coups, funding right wing extremist groups

Nah fundamentally I agree with you, of course and it’s a fair point

But I think OP is more discussing the comfort and regularity of this tradition of making jokes annually about 9/11

Edit: shoot even when comedians make light of the war on terror it’s a segue from 9/11

like i said i find some of the jokes pretty funny. but my timeline was flooded with them yesterday and i would say that like 5% were funny. i dunno why we as a culture have become so committed to edginess.

i don't think that has to do with people making fun of the deaths of innocent people though. i feel like people have dumbed 9/11 down to "this was just the consequence of us imperialism," which makes people think the jokes are ok no matter how bad they are. but it's not the entire story. thousands of people died. their families never the same. and just 20 years later it has become socially acceptable to piss on their graves. it's like our disrespect for the government has transcended the respect we're supposed to have for our fellow citizen

Both are bad to make fun of the victims for but let's be completely real here the Holocaust is infinitely worse than 9/11 lmao

It is peak American Exceptionalism to compare the Holocaust to 9/11 like wow lol

10 million people industrially exterminated in torture/labor camps, 6 million of whom were deliberately targeted Jews and 1 million of whom were deliberately targeted homosexuals, or less than 3,000 people dying from a kamikaze attack. Both horrific but let's use perspective here.
