There’s zero competition in rap atm. A few fake beefs created for sales and that’s it.
Too many people have called themselves the GOAT or best rapper atm and it’s lost all meaning.
Too much fast food music with artist with zero replay value in about 2/3 years time
2018 was terrible outside of baby gunna Travis and Carti
No new rapper has released a debut as good as YNW Melly I Am You since 2018
2018 was terrible outside of baby gunna Travis and Carti
Youngboy in 2018 had a 2015 Future type year
2018 was terrible outside of baby gunna Travis and Carti
Sooo basically ur saying 2018 wasnt terrible? Lmao. Also wyoming and if u think all that is “terrible” why u even on here tbh

Why bro just put “Yeat.” in the middle of his paragraph like that?

If I’m being real UK rap scene been better than US in the past few years.
M1llionz a prodigy no recent US artist could hold a candle to him as far as talent/creativity/innovation goes.
High quality, flow of the century and no one sounds like him

Ktt2 is the group thats still waiting on a new Rocky project and debating on if Drake/Kdot/Cole are big 3
They not plugged in and you not gonna know whats going on in the scene thru this site
as a whole yea the sites bad for this
The current era of rap will always feel like the worst rap because you can’t selectively filter out the horseshit. My favorite hip hop music is Clipse, old Wayne, the Pharrell/Neptune’s/NERD stuff (clipse kinda in this sphere too). Despite this, I genuinely think the era of hip hop all these acts are from, that 00s period, is my least favorite when you take into account the other s***.
I would say I’m more even more optimistic about the future of rap music and music in general in 2022 than I was in, say 2017. I think a lot of acts like 21 savage and Kodak improved significantly.
if u cant find something you like in this era... you not looking hard enough
how is this an answer to op's question?
How you mean?
he just a buzzword using hater he don't even know what he means and if he comes back w some off the cuff word vomit just know that's all it is

It's okay if that was your least favorite era but there's no way 20's hip hop is comparable to the 2000's.
There was a thousand times more diversity in the 2000's than today. Even rappers who were called "remedial" by hip hop purists back then like Jeezy could spit a solid 16 verse.
Like there's no comparison. Even a nigga like Lupe was able to carve out a lane in that era while Cordae flopped and is no where near as talented despite having that "conscious/safe" marketing.
Seriously, this meme about 2000's rap being "mid" has to end. It literally makes no sense.
How many rappers who blew up in the past 5 years have albums as great as MMLP, Late Registration, GRODT, Carter 2, Madvillainy, Food & Liquor, and Purple Haze to name a few?
Yeah...there was ringtone/snap music for like 2 years tops but we've been getting lots of meme hits for 5 years straight now, including one that caused an album to outsell the Weeknd this year.
2020's hip hop is, so far, the worst era at least as far as the mainstream goes. Yes...the undeground is great but the underground was always great so you can't keep falling back on that.
Edit: And I say that as someone who does consider rappers like Carti, Lil Baby, Roddy, etc. to have strong potential to be legends in the game. I'm just holding rappers to the same standards ya'll hold other eras and being objective. If you have to lower the bar to tout up their greatness, it proves the OP's point.
The bar is simultaneously too high and too low for new artists. You’re either a huge star capable of so much like a Pop Smoke or you’re a sideshow act with barely anything to offer. Zero development, the industry just wants popping artists right off the bat.

I'm glad that s*** is acknowledged as a meme
The problem is that rappers are not getting challenged to make better music.
I think Q Tip was right when he said that people don’t care about the co-sign anymore, because any rapper can blow up if they have the machine behind him.
On top of that rappers are making music for the labels rather than making music to have cultural impact.

The only people who say 2000s rap was mid are people who’s first album was Rodeo
