you gotta think about it though, from post-GKMC to pre-DAMN, kendrick is making some of the most polarizing, inaccessible (but classic) music. music that casual fans literally hated with a passion

even when you think about it, the TPAB tour was small venues (for him) like the house of blues. they marketed it like “this music deserves an intimate setting” which is true but i also think that may be a spin. expecting 20,000 people to show up in omaha or detroit or columbus to hear “king kunta” was a hard sell. because most modern rap fans palate needed to catch up and develop, as we saw.

i say all that to say, kendrick did those features for that long for good reason and it logically makes sense
