First listen thoughts. Great double album could end up being my favorite from him just because of the amount of crazy tracks on here.

It does suffer from similar things as his past releases. Cole has needed a proper A&R team to help level certain tracks with interludes/skits and stop overdoing a theme. You think he's done exploring his relationship with Life Sentence and then he flips it on the very next track Only You. This could've been one track.

That 9-track run to start Disc 29/1 was the perfect balance of Cole's artistry, lyrical ability, singing, hitting themes, and blending features. It starts to slip on The Let Out and flattens until The Fall-Off Is Inevitable. Disc 39/2's strongest run was Man Above to Quick Stop. Also, I would've moved the Bonus Tracks to the end of Disc 39/2. Ending Disc 29/1 with the "Life being a film that cant be rewound" line would've been a landed better.

I can tell this one will grow on me though.

you hit the nail on the head second paragraph, my legit thought

no need to have Life Sentence and immediately go into Only You right after. either make it one long track, change the sequencing or remove one altogether

Oh bro these niggas hated Life Sentence 😂😂😂

    Multiple listens before posting >>>>

And it’s things to legit critique but yeah lol.

Cole is at his best when in love. Pretty little fears feature still the best thing he's done

  • I don't love a lot of this production I'm afraid

Scrolling through the thread and seeing people unanimously acknowledging the fatigue setting in >>>

IT’S ONLY LIKE A HANDFUL OF MUSICIANS THAT CAN PULL OFF DOUBLE DISCS (and like 1 or 2 of em are rappers, shoutout to my nigga KRIT. The whole artform of lyrics coming at you just inevitably will eat at you over a runtime of almost 2 hours. Vince pulled it off cause lot of summertime tracks was short)

  • We sleeping GOOD tonight.

He will never be on Drake or Dot’s level lol.

  • It's daunting to think about running this front to back again lol

A lot of it comes with the artistic intent which then bleeds into execution, but those gotta be in sync the whole time

But like I been saying for years AEOM coulda been shorter too. Like this aint a “shit on Cole” thing (this still essentially the best cole has sounded in decades) but it’s definitely like rap suffers the most from lack of quality control when the double disc comes into play.

It's so difficult to pull off especially with someone who uses minimal features like cole

  • This nigga almost made me late for work

  • It's not bad but goddamn...

    It's cool, but it ain't "2014"

  • Album gets better with every listen. The only track I hate is ocean way.. but it’s a bonus track so whatever

Cole sounds good here. He's never been lacking in terms of pure rapping technicality. But this sounds like your standard issue Cole album lol I'm just confused why THIS is the one he was hyping up.
