A gimmick is something done for attention that doesn’t accurately represent / portray who the artist is
Imagine if Drake made a video of him running into a store and just stealing something then saying Boonk gang
It would just be for attention and not accurately represent him as an artist.
Speaking of Boonk, that’s a perfect example of what happens when you build your entire career on gimmicks instead of branding
He was just pointlessly stealing stuff, recording it and posting it to go viral/for attention. If he had some type of message or reason for it that is bigger, like saying he is the Robinhood of The Hood and stealing from the rich giving back to the poor or something then it wouldn’t be a gimmick anymore
Point being, Jack having a funny personality just is who he is. He’s going to make those type of jokes whether a camera is on him or not. He’s just being true to himself. He’s not doing it for attention
So Jack Harlow really tryna smash druhski? having a gimmick or utilizing social media aint bad drake is a master of it utilizing his memes aint futher proves the point of the post.
Someone trying to say Jack is known only for his music and not his personality like his adele or sum is CAP
drake was never hated in hiphop like russ.
not accepted sure but russ is definitely on the outside of the industry for a reason.
you can't be Drake without the industry
Russ is also an independent artist. The industry doesn’t want to see him win
If you go look at Russ Spotify streams on his 2017 album it has more streams than Drake More Life
Which yea was not a full album by drake but to have a more popular project than drake while being a fully independent artist is actually insane

russ making it is insane I'll give you that.
but drake .... drake is undeniably one of the biggest phenomenons in rap ever.

This is such a stupid and unnecessary lie. Russ' 2017, 2018 and 2020 albums don't have nearly as many streams as More Life.
Russ
There's Really a Wolf (2017), Zoo (2018)
Shake the Snow Globe (2020)
Drake
More Life (2017)
More Life alone has almost as many streams as Russ has on Spotify across his ENTIRE catalog. Russ has 382 total songs on Spotify. Drake has 420 total songs on Spotify. Drake's total streams = 60.3B. Russ' total streams = 5.7B.

I’ll take my L
You’re missing a key thing….he’s just not good
What was special about 2011-2015 drake when he took over was just not the fact he had hits after hits but also the fact that he could be considered among the most skilled and talented of the genre
He had the respect of hip hop traditionalists
Harlow doesnt have that.
Lil baby the closest thing
I’ll take my L
Where did you even hear that lie from man saying Russ album has more steams than a Drake album is so unbelievable I had to go look it up knowing it was cap. But saying Russ doesn't got the industry isn't the full truth because we can Google his dad is Jim Vitale and he works in advertising with recording labels. Russ isn't exactly starting from nothing like a lot of independent artists do

Brent is an independent artist and the industry loves him
Dismiss this was made by a white person, I’m sorry for my comments this non of my business

Fair point but I think there's a general misunderstanding of what being an independent musician means. Being "independent" simply means you don't have a standard recording contract with a record label. That's it.
Even without being signed, you will make very little headway in the music industry with connections and knowing the right people (most of who work for/are affiliated with record labels). That doesn't take away from or undermine you being independent. Neither does a member of your family having industry connections.
The thing with being independent is that while you're not signed to a record label (which in most cases, would handle all the industry connections you need to ensure your success automatically), you still need to find success and powerful people are the ones behind any massive industry so you'll always need people. Independent artists also have managers, tour managers, lawyers, agents, etc just like artists who are signed to record labels do.
Of course, some artists start from absolutely nothing knowing no one but eventually, before they make any real headway in the business, they'll need people to help them out so it's really the same thing at the end of the day. I don't think it's fair to hold Russ' father's position as a way to diminish his success and hardwork (especially since his father hasn't been in that position for years). He still had to release 11 mixtapes before his first album and he still isn't "on" in some ways. If his father could ensure him being established as a staple mainstream act (something Russ still desperately wants), I'm sure he would have had him help him a long time ago.
It's the same way people try to undermine Drake's success by saying he didn't grow up dirt poor or he's Jewish or he had family members in the business and using those as reasons as to why he's as successful as he is today. The truth is, ultimately, none of those things did anything for Drake and none of them are responsible for him blowing up. His hardwork, skill, determination and meeting Lil Wayne (and being ready to deliver on expectations) did that for him. If Drake could have easily blown up in 2006/2007 as an unsigned artist, I'm sure he would have.
I still agree that neither Russ nor Jack Harlow are the next Drake but I just wanted to breakdown the point you made.
Sorry for the long post btw.
