I was up there for awhile. It's really unbelievable how f***ed over NA are. It's somewhat known but doesn't get the attention it deserves here in the states. Have to be the worst treatment a group of people have ever gotten in human history and still suffering to this day.

It's horrible dude. They stole kids from their families, cut their hair, anglicized their names, converted them to Christianity.

Destroyed their culture, pushed them off to reserves which are worse than many 3rd world countries. They're stuck in a perpetual cycle of substance abuse, domestic violence and trauma.

It'll be generations until things start to turn around for them, if they ever do.

    Synopsis

Initiatives as in enacting restorative justice. And poverty is the biggest one

What's the projected timeline in an ideal situation to fix it and what would happen to people who commit crime in the meantime? Also crime exists outside of poverty, how would that be stopped or laws be enforced on them?
Can you elaborate on restorative justice because that seems generally vague and optimistic. What would happen if poverty is limited, the justice reforms are enacted and crime is still being committed?

good watch if you're interested in this

  • theres some people who need to be isolated from society

but even then, prisons are insanely inhumane

theres some country where the prisons are like nice little rooms. isolating these people is enough. treating them like cattle is insanely contradictory to me. leave the judgement up to god and the tao

More like abolish private prisons. Fixing the jail system happens more often outside of it not Inside it

Private prisons barely make up 9% of incarcerated people. Wholly insufficient measure

Don’t have the time to read through the thread. What’s the proposed solution for serial rapists, serial murderers, etc. I believe that some people can be rehabilitated if the resources were provided, but this absolutely isn’t the case for everyone.

Edit: I believe mass incarnation is a major issue that needs to be addressed. Just wondering about what happens to those who will not be reformed and will continue committing offenses on innocent people if not incarcerated.

    Synopsis

We get rid of the conditions that lead to crimes and take solely community centered approaches and transformative/restorative justice initiatives

Can you stop? Like seriously. You just sit at home pondering unrealistic hypotheticals and theoretical utopias and decide everyone here needs to see you're wacky ideas laid out in a thread.

Nigga said get rid of conditions that lead to crime. That is not real life. Some people commit crimes just to do them, and 'eliminating conditions that create crime' is the definition of easier said than done and only looks good on paper. Be real with yourself and others before making these threads man.

U Cant explain the whole thing in one sentence especially to people who have already made up their mind.

And synopsis is rightfully fed up with a lot of the ways people think

The problems are great but if everybody just said “that’s impossible” then we’d still have slavery and colonialism everywhere and all different types of s***

Obviously every person isn't going to have the perfect approach

    but do you disagree with:

*Imprisoning humans (often unjustly from many perspectives) and forcing them to do labor that benefits the worlds largest companies is wrong

*Once a felon serves their time they can't vote and often can't get jobs so they're more likely to go back to jail and have to do this forced labor that profits these criminal companies that don't pay their taxes, this is also f***ed up

*Putting a human in a cage/very small space for long periods in concept is f***ed from the outset

I'm still trying to see where ur going with getting rid of rehab centers as well,

Eventually, if we can get to that point, where we have better more humane methods, that's dope but I'm trying to see the path to that and I know prob some people are confused too

Rehab centers are just another form of control. Therapy should be encouraged in some sense but not at a facility
