  • Been listening to his self-titled and Assume Form albums and I dare to say he may be one of the greatest producers of the 21st century.

Wilheim Scream may be his greatest song ever.

I still think The Colour in Anything is his magnum opus. Never had I ever cried during a listening session until I listened to this beautifully melancholic album.

    Any thoughts on this, KTT2?

Yeah your texture so to speak is basically the timbre of your entire soundscape

Aka how everything comes together to a single identity, and how each seperate thing means its own part of your sound

Travis Scott's autotune means one thing, his beats' chords mean another, his drums mean another thing and so on...but when it all comes together it becomes Travis's texture.

Aspiring producers especially need to get the importance of a distinct "texture"

Exactly. So important and also why Pierre beats are crazy

Wish there was a whole thread or section we could nerd out about these topics without trolls or niggas tryna be funny

sometimes i don't think it's not so much about the individual producer, but how the producer(s) and artist come together to make it work. how they layer all the different parts of production and the lyrical component. like you mentioned, frank's production is always super good. I think tame impala is another example like that, kevin parker always has wild production that is super layered but it still manages to sound super clean and fits his vocals perfectly

I feel like a lot of the times that gets thrown away just to make the next catchy or hard beat

  • Fantastic discussions and replies so far

    Lets do that thread, fam

P.S. I was insecure about discussing the wonderful textures that James Blake creates in his songs and albums. Hopefully the upcoming thread will delve deeper into why I feel that texture is important to have in music.

  • Assume Form and especially the title track is one of his best works y’all niggas sleeping. Read the Resident Advisor review if you need a perspective that ain’t cucked like P4K or Cucktano
