OP I been revisiting a lot of his music lately too. 100% agree on TCIA, I didn’t enjoy the most recent album as much because it felt like he put too much focus on his singing. I always felt on his earlier albums he uses his voice as an instrument to compliment the soundscapes of the instrumentals which are fckin incredible

Just listened to weilheim scream cuz of the title, disappointed lol

Listened to it at night in your room.with noise cancelling headphones and reflect on emotional memories in your life.

Then you'll start to hear the brilliance of that track

I feel like a lot of the times that gets thrown away just to make the next catchy or hard beat

Yeah and what's ironic is the dudes who make it in the industry and can consistently make catchy or hard beats are the ones who understand the importance of "texture"

Yea lol there are atleast 30 other artists I could mention. The most abstract and creative producers r rarely very popular

wilhelm scream changed my ears and my life, and self-titled is my fav album of all time. i cried when i saw him play lindisfarne live for the first time.

honestly you dont even know what texture in music is until you hear the wilhelm scream. the crisp warmth it opens with, the way the left and right vocals are slightly off so they echo through your skull, the sonar-esque blips that cut apart the mix as it starts to build, the way everything drops off into an overwhelming layer of fuzz, and the way the soul of the keys still cut through that fuzz.. yall wanna go in-depth into the texture of this album ill take it there, i dont mess around with this one.

the only thing i stan is this album honestly.

Just was listening to AF this morning and thought this exact thing.

Into The Red is one of the most amazing sonically pleasing songs I’ve ever heard. The mixing on that is incredible and his vocal layering with the strings is just perfection. AF prob my #2 AOTY

I think James Blake is properly placed and respected as needed. He still has some time to prove himself too.
