Looks like sarcasm to me.
This is rich coming from James Blake lol, you can sum up his discography pretty well in the length of a tiktok. Your whole discography sounds like a 15 second clip repeating so what’s the issue
Streaming was only a band-aid for the mediafire era, for the industry to remain sustainable we always had to move on or pay more at some point
And if the money is moving back to labels they do need to do more in terms of artist investment instead of leeching off of fads for a quick buck over and over doing long term damage
Blame consumerism. Spotify and other streaming platforms need to charge $20 for streaming this much music.
Otherwise nobody in the digital age wants to buy music since it's consumed like slop for the general masses

C’mon man y’all can’t tell this is obvious sarcasm?

It’s been devalued so much that now streaming companies are in a spot where they can’t raise the prices too much or else too many listeners just simply won’t pay for it anymore. For some reason people are less willing to pay for music in the same way that they’re willing to pay for film or TV shows
the real reason the industry sucks so much now is literally because labels don't have as much overt power as they used to decades ago btw
they still have the same proportional financial stake but its not paired with the same level of direct market influence so the model of modern labels has been essentially reduced down to private equity or VC style investment, hence why everyone characterizes it as "labels just sit and wait for you to go viral". yeah the reason they do that is because the alternative is the 70s~ music industry which everyone complained about also despite them playing a meaningful role in distribution and investment

Whyd they make her mid

Your last point is…like a super huge thing to just brush off bro lol
i don’t know how to talk about it sensibly but it boils down to them being associated with “background” or “elevator” music, most people already don’t engage with this kind of music actively so they don’t care about who’s or what’s playing it and since the music itself rarely feature vocals it’s easier to recreate it with machine learning (ai), between companies wanting to avoid paying licensing to actual artists and the average joe tryna make a quick buck on youtube with ai generated lofi streams — you see why it’s only a matter of time
there’s probably a rapper who’s gonna blow up with ai generated beats in the next 5 years
People waking up and smelling the bullshit
But when one of us makes a thread about this kind of s*** we’re being too negative
That part about people only knowing one moment in a song hits so hard.
I know Steve Lacey hates his fans for sure.
Big update: he’s cooking 👀
